1/4 mile times - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #4611 31 posts Started by DoodieHead
So, has naybody went to a track and timed their 1/4 mile? I went to track today for the first time. I know my car can probably can go a little bit faster since im a novice driver but my time was 18.04. does anybody wanna share their times?
17.6, if i remember correctly, with a 1.6 RT. later i got .6 RT's, but everything was heat soaked and the car got slower.

1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition@gt4.wrc on Instagram
16.545 with the 7A, short ram intake, and Ultra-Flo exhaust.

Keep in mind that the perfect RT at this track is 0.0, unlike most tracks, which is 0.500

EDIT: I just noticed the date... damn... I was 17... man I feel old...

dang, thats good time for a 115 hp car. what rpm did you take off at and where do you shift at? i dont know how i could get that fast when i was pushing it hard to get 18 flat. do you think the wheel size can make a big difference?

It's 110 HP... not 115... I'm really curious where the 115 HP rumor started. I wish I kept my factory papers and brochure that contained all the specs on my ST.

As far as where I idled before the launch, I don't remember... it's been 8 years bro. But I think I idled around 2300, then floored it when the last yellow lit up. I would shift right before fuel cut (I think 7700 RPM's...) I really don't remember since where the fuel cut is since I haven't driven my car for over a year...

As for wheels affecting the time... let me just put out a big HELL F'ING YES! I got that time on the stock 14's. As soon as I got the 16's... my time slowed down to 16.9's to 17.2's

Spoilers will also affect 1/4 mile times...

And a bunch of other things...

damn, I can still remember making my own heat shielf back then... with a fan... which didn't do jack ish for my 1/4 mile times... I even used the laundry hose thinga-ma-jigger for ram air... and that didn't do anything either...

For those that wonder why I'm so ill and put down so many products... this is why. I've tried a lot of different things since then... and nothing seemed to help. You can only squeeze so much out of the 7A's and 5S's, unless you have the funds for boosting it and rebuilding the internals... which IMHO is a waste of money and can be better spent on a motor swap.

I'm sure some of you dislike me for taking away from the joys of modding, but I don't mean to... I'm only stating facts that I've learned from PERSONAL experience...

Well, that's probably where the rumor started then. I'm assuming you have a 3S-FE, right? I'm guessing that some Euro Celica ST owner stated what their HP rating was in some msg board, and word got around that the ST pumped out a whomping 115 HP. And although people knew that the 7A-FE only pushed out 110, they liked the sound of 115 better, thus the start of the rumor.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention doGGy. >wink.gif> And nice time!!

Nope Kuya, I have 7A-FE engine... Check my profile if you dont belive my >smile.gif> And 3S-FE has 135 hp >smile.gif>

I'm just glad that Kuya actually posted a picture of his timeslip. Too many b.s. their times. I had no idea a 7AFE could run 16's without boost.
the 7a-fe produces 115 hp but because of CA emission regulations, it only produces 110 in CA. Everywhere else it is 115.

correct...

my manual says 115, and it's north american.

Except for the later ones that only made 105, like my 97.

Yeah... the later models, 96+ used OBDII and had slightly different emmission control sensors, which hurt HP a bit, but I believe they had a bit more torque...

My best run (on my first celica) w/o Nitrious was like, 16.1 or something like that... It was low 16's... with CAI, catback, underdrive pulley, P&P, and header.

My current runs, I would imagine be in the mid 16's...

Oh yeah, Ray... and the Sacramento is on a 0.500 RT now...;]

Well, in that case, I'm really curious how you hit low 16's bro. I even had more experienced drivers run my car at the tracks, but I still got a better time than they did. I know that the 5 HP difference wouldn't decrease a 1/4 mile time by that much...

What were your mods when you hit that time?

Thanks for the clarification on this. But that doesn't make any sense why Cali would do that. Do you know of any other cars manufacturers that put this limitation? I could've sworn seeing the the Celica brochure that the HP was 110. But yeah, thanks for the info. Also, where did you get this info out of curiosity?

Thanks... because they've been at 0.000 for the longest time. That was the first track that I raced at. I remember the first time that I ran at Sear's Point (I forgot the new name), I looked at my RT and was hella surprised. I was like WTF?? Why is my RT at this track so much slower. I later realized they they offset the RT by 0.500. hehe
almost every manufacturer that i can think of has different HP ratings for their cali cars...i'm pretty sure they do, at least.

east coast > west coast

hahahah...
whoa, you shifted at 7700? doesnt it redline at 6200?

I said that I don't remember... it's been over a year since I last drove my car... and 8 years since I last raced at the tracks.
My GT-4's best is a 13.48@157km/h

Not bad i thought, considering the only real performance mods ive done is filter, boost and half an exhaust >biggrin.gif>

nevermind what i said before, th 7a-fe isnt restricted in CA. The 5s-fe is though. Its hp is down 5 from 135 to make 130 horsepower.

In that case, I would like to know more info about this 115 / 110 HP discrepancy. I'll do some digging and see if I can find more info...
toysport says the 7afe is 115 hp..don't know if you want to use their info tho

Yeah... and cars.com and toyotacelicaonline.com says 110... >biggrin.gif>

I believe cars.com get's their data directly from the manufacturers.

>wink.gif>
i know the torque is 115, maybe somewhere down the line they got the 2 mixed up...
yea,im going to say 110hp, any way its still slow lol >smile.gif>

my first track time was 15.78

now i got some mods going i may have to run up there after i get my headers built

And about power, euro celicas have 87 Kw (this is ~115 hp)...

OK...I dug out my original brochure that I got with my (European) 1997 1.8L ST, details as follows:

Celica 1.8L ST, Type 7A-FE,
85kW CEE / 115ch DIN,
0-100 km/h = 10.2s, 0-400 m = 17.1s,
max. speed 200 km/h

Celica 2.0L GT, Type 3S-GE,
129kW CEE / 175ch DIN,
0-100 km/h = 8.1s, 0-400 m = 16.0s,
max. speed 225 km/h
