GT brake calipers on a ST - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #46119 10 posts Started by fanboy95
i tried searching but nothing would come up. to put gt brake calipers on a st would all i need is the calipers, brackets?
for the front brakes that's all you need, just the calipers and the brackets. They will fit directly onto your ST hubs and you can use the ST front brake lines.

as for the rear, nope.

thanks, i'm trying to do the dish conversion on the back (missing 1 part) and i thought it would just be easier to get all gt disks instead of st and gt.

Actually all you need is just the Calipers, you wont need the bracket. I just did this conversion a month ago and it went well. All you need are the Calipers, gt brake pads and rotors.... Good luck! smile.gif

wow egg, nice. So the GT caliper fits fine on the ST bracket? ws it a snug fit ? any pics ?

yes sir... i could try and get some pics up tommorow smile.gif no promises but ill try. Not sure what you mean by snug fit... but all i did was take the 2 big bolts that hold the calpiper to bracket, take the caliper off (obv. remove brake line) then just put in the GT caliper in the same spot using the same 2 bolts, and done! Easy does it.... Although one thing i did notice come to think of it.. is that you will need the wire clips that go into the brake pads off a GT. The ST ones arent as wide. (Just checked BGB, they are called Anti rattle springs http://www.celicatech.com/imagearchive/bgb...ke%20system.pdf )

you will need the GT calipers and the GT "torque plates" or "brackets" as I called them smile.gif

Sweet!! thank you batman for posting these pictures. I had no time this weekend. thumbsup.gif

But yes to answer you question fanboy you will need the brackets for the conversion. The bracket is the first thing batman posted, the one with the two bolts. I knew it as torque plates but because i got it as a bundle considered it part of the caliper. You will need just like batman said, everything in red.

It is really easy to install, wayyyy easier than the rear, if youve done it already. Those two Big bolts are what hold the assemly onto the hub, so just disconect the brake lines on your current setup, then just take those two big bolts off and the whole assembly will come out as a unit.

Once youve taken it out, putting in the GT brakes will be exactly the same only in reverse. (although it will be easier to bolt on the bracket first, then attactch the caliper with the pads in place.) Good luck man ! smile.gif
