Damn Dustin.....I'd be willing to help out if I have a few days off when you do it.

Might just be easiest to yank out the whole engine, then while its out index everything and do the head gasket, timing belt, and any other parts you may want to refurbish while its out. All that would be required would be to lay the whole harness on top of the engine, remove the axles, coolant and p/s lines and then hoist that mofo outta the car once the mounts are unbolted.

If all the parts needed were on hand, 2-3 people could get it done within 2 days, easily. Let me know if you'd like a hand, I'll come up if you want.

I've pulled a few engines before Corey wink.gif

the problem is I don't have a hoist or garage here to pull the engine, all the work is going to be done outside my house on my street kindasad.gif (at least I live close to the end on a dead end street)

I'm gonna tackle this in a few weeks (once it gets warmer), I know I can handle it, I just need a few days off in a row and I'll be good to go.

7AFE and 5SFE our NON interference.. sadly my 2ZZGE is =[

I thought all 2000 and up Toyota motors are free-running!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

-TomazWSwww.tomazws.com
It's actually the other way around.
Most 00 ^ are interference.

For the most part [there ARE exceptions, such as the 2UZFE I believe is interference] if it has a belt, it's non interference [freewheeling]. If it has a chain, it's interference.

Dustin, I MIGHT be able to give you guys a hand if you need it.
Dunno. kindasad.gif
Yay for me 2... My belt stripped the 23rd. Just yesterday I was able to get a wrench in there. Took me 1 1/2 hours to get it apart, now just waiting for the belt and tensioner.

BTW on the ZZ engines you have a Timing Chain, so it's less likely to snap like a belt.

OK I'm thinking that next weekend (the 28-29th - weather permitting) should be a good time to get this done. Stef and I pulled many of the accessories off the head today and by tomorrow everything should be set for the head to come out.

So if you guys can give me a hand either Saturday or Sunday (or both) this is when I'm gonna need some help.

what I'm hoping for is to do the head gasket on Saturday, then finish up the timing belt/water pump on Sunday.

Just curious, how did you determine that the belt broke? Did you actually pull the cover and check?

Ah, all good.
I'll try to make it down there, but I work 'til 4PM on Sat.
If I can make it, is there anything special tool wise you guys might need?

I was kidding about the camshafts. Sorry tongue.gif
You know, it didn't register that it was this weekend until just now....
How far along are you?

I'll try to call Manny tomorrow. I have something going on. kindasad.gif

my belt was done once back before i had the car when it had 60k on it, the cars got 125k now so im going to get it done soon do you guys know what id be looking at for price to have it done i know all shops vairy but is there a ballpark someone can give me thanks
yup it happened. The head gasket, timing belt, and water pump went in really without any snags...except a broken sensor out of the water neck. It's the one closest to the head, I think it's the water temp sensor for the EFI.

I'm gonna get everything buttoned back up in the next few days after work, should take a couple of hours to get it 100%, I just need the time and daylight.

Thanks to Manny & Jenn, ze Horniak, and Steff <3

i know for sure it's not an interference motor. One way to know for sure whether or not it's an interference motor is while you have the timing belt off, you should be able to spin the crank with no resistance, meaning it's not hitting any valves. so you should be safe, now if your replacing the head gasket, my tip to you is to BUY EVERYTHING, because while you have the head off, it's a good idea to replace the valve seals, clean up the valves by lapping them, and clean the whole head because after you are all done, that motor will last another 200k miles.
update

since we got the new HG, timing belt, and water pump all in on Sunday I have had to time to put everything back together until today. I did do a little bit each night (in the dark kindasad.gif ) but I had half of the day today to finish all the loose ends.
So now I have everything back together and I replaced the broken temp sensor with a spare and everything is 100% now. No CELs, no clanks, no leaks (yet), no problems.

During the downtime I had I did manage to do a few upgrades like a new HU, new speakers, 7th gen wheel, adjustable rear sway bar end links, new front bushings, replaced a bad wheel stud, painted the cooliing panel, J Speed bar and valve cover black, fixed a squeeling front wheel (thanks Manny), ect..

I have to say, it drives better than ever, rides like a dream now smile.gif

once again, big thanks to Manny & Jenn (presure2), the Horniak(x_itchy_b_X), and Stef (hurley97).

next is paint...and boost smile.gif
