new struts - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #46164 5 posts Started by eclipse_04a
ok, so after reading this entire section and not completely finding my answer, I have this question. I need to replace my struts, and at least rear strut mounts. now what else in the assembly should/do i need to replace? I am planning to go with the kyb gr2's and kyb mounts. do the mounts come with bearings? any other parts commonly wear out? car has almost 160k on it. is there a way to tell if I need front mounts before I take them apart? also does anyone know of a place cheaper than Import Replacement Parts? Any other advice tips in changing my struts would be appreciated. I have never done them before, but am mechanically capable. I have a chilton's manual for my car, (95 gt liftback) for reference, but everything seems pretty straight foward. not sure if i have the sport suspension package or not... will check tomorrow. If i have the normal suspension, what is different in the precedure? am I just undoing an extra nut, and inserting a cartridge and putting the nut back on vs. just replacing the entire piece?
get the whole assembly, if your car is rusty at all, you dont want to deal with getting a rusty nut off. i looked at the website for a 99 and they carry all 4 struts. you might need new sway end links too.
when your talking whole assembly, what part are you talking about exactly? what I'm looking at is the kyb gr2 struts and rear mounts.

Numbers I found are:

95-99 sealed struts
Front R - 334378
Front L - 334379
Rear R - 334125
Rear L - 334126

94-99 unsealed struts <----- are these the whole assembly or just replacement cartridges?
Front R - 365092
Front L - 365092
Rear R - 334125
Rear L - 334126

Mounts with Bearing
Front - sm5372 <----- for cars with sport suspension package
Front - sm5164 <----- for cars without sport suspension package
Rear - sm5087

and just for anyone elses convience:

Dust boots
Front and Rear: sb103

so i havent been able to find an answer to my question in the forums, so i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction

i noticed that the sealed struts are offered for the 95+, but only the unsealed is offered for the 94' i was wondering if anyone knows what happened with the suspension from 94 to 95 and why the sealed 95+ struts wont work with the 94'.

on a side note, im currently on s-tech springs and planning on getting struts. planning on getting unsealed gr2s for the front and sealed gr2s for the rear. how is this set up? any problems? should i get the kyb mounts to go along with it?

things happen for a reason.
as far as I've been able to find, the only difference was they offered the sport package (sealed front struts) that uses a little different mount on the front. If you have any questions you can call KYB. Theyre really helpful actually. They answered most of my questions (which is good because I had the numbers backwards, but I fixed that in my first post.) I dont think the teins should be a problem, I thought about putting them on, but wasn't sure, and will use the money elsewhere for now.

As far as sealed fronts a 94, they should if you bought the right mounts. Anyone else know for sure? I know people with sealed that want to go unsealed can just take mounts off of another car with no problems.
