Special Edition Stereo - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #46329 4 posts Started by m0dd3d1
Hey all I just recently hit up the junk yard for some misc. parts for my Celica and I found a Special Edition that had an immaculate interior! So besides buying the "CELICA" embroidered seats and misc. trunk parts, I bought the radio/tape deck/cd player combo as well for $50. Now, I hooked up the radio and (as it should) it connected perfectly into my dash but the CD player is having an issue taking the discs. It only pulls the disc in about half way. Is that something I can fix or not? And if anyone knows it, would I be able to buy just the bottom half to the radio (the cd player; it looks as if it's 2 parts just bolted together) at Toyota or something? And in that case I'd probably have to buy it stateside and get it shipped b/c UK and US CD players are different...I think...or is that just VHS & DVD? I can't remember. Thanks for your time!

there are a couple of actions at ebay going around for the piece what you are looking. Make sure the connector is good. I would open it and while open insert a cd, it might need some greasing of the mechanism. It uses a special white grease that you have to buy, i bought muine from ebay. Anyway, you dont have anything to lose if its not working already, and you might learn a few things. If it has like a cracked dent on any of the plastic cranks, then there is nothing you ca do, but sell it on ebay for parts, sometimes others might need just a display or something. GL.

If the aforementioned grease doesn't work, I don't know if it's worth your time fiddling with it.

The two pieces are seperate, connected by a bracket and a DIN cable. You should be able to order just the CD player, and I don't see any reason why a US CD player would be different than a UK CD player.

If you are looking at replacing the CD player, however, you may simply want to consider a decent aftermarket one. Toyota's prices for OEM parts are often insane. You could pop in an aftermarket player for the same or less money, and chances are that it would be a better unit.

Yeah, I hear you there. Only thing is that I want a nice double-din w/ navi eventually but I'm overseas now, so I don't know how it's going to pan out. Thanks for the info guys.
