I wake up and go to lunch today as usual... rumors start spreading about a suicide on campus last night. I head back to my dorm and meet my friend who lives on the next floor above me and ask him if he's heard of anything. Turns out his room mate was the one who left at some point in the night and went into the basement of another dorm and killed himself. How he killed himself is unknown since that information will probably be witheld due to the situation. I personally am fine because I didn't know him at all really but with a campus of 500 students it hits pretty close to home. I personally feel that suicide is a permenant solution to a temporary problem, so I don't have respect for people that do commit suicide, but at the same time i know people that aren't all there mentally and with a bunch of social factors that are out there now adays i guess its possible for some people to take their own lives. Thats my rant and it's not often that i do it but it's pretty crazy.....

I agree with you're opinion that you shouldn't get upset if you didn't know the guy.
I don't however, agree with you're view that suicide is wrong. just like the lifesupport question - when the quality of life is gone sometimes it's just the best way to end the misery. Until you have really hit bottom in your life [and we all will at some point] you can't understand how he must have felt.
The world can be beautiful and it can be brutal. Sometimes it's just not worth the trouble. It was his life and he made his choice. I hope wherever he is he got the peace he was looking for.

After I have gone about my day and played some lacrosse and thought about everything i'm amazed how i feel about it. My view on suicide is because I don't understand and probably alot of us don't as well. Would I ever take my own life bc life is hard or it sucks so bad i can't deal? Definitly not. Sure there are tons of factors for him as there always are in those situations so I won't ever understand I just hate to see people take their lives thinking thats the best solution.

its not like people just take their life cuz they had a pooey day at work or school. sometimes mentally things happen. Never know. Also, ya never know what could have been going on within the family.

Anyways i feel sorry for his friends and family. i cant imagine losing someone close to me

i don't know where you go to school, but college does that to people. i was shocked to see figures on how many kids just lose it at college. the pressure is really on a lot of students to do well, and it's hard to get out of that.

i feel for the guy, and his family and friends. it's always sad to hear.

i don't know how much i agree with negative (i mean, of all sn's ).

From religion wise. Suicide is a ticket to hell. Suicide is usually caused by intense and uncontrollable situations where it seems to be the only choice they have left.

If you commit suicide it doesn't mean your going to hell.. thats not true at all.
(by relgion yes.. but any decent human knows theres somthing else wrong here)

Sometime people just feel their problems will never go away, and it happens.

To do such a thing you have to be so mentaly unstable, but so stable at the same time to go trough with it.

I'm going to major in socoilogy, so i already know a lot about the whole suicide deal..

Also.. just so everyone knows... suicide is somthing you build up to for months, or sometimes years. It is in no way a inpulvise act. And.. just the stats..

(90% of sucide victums give a sign)
(80% could of been saved)

And your only in a sucideal state of mind for 24 hours.. after that it takes months again to build up to it.

The majorty of sucides happen during the spring.. because everything around you seems to get new life (plants, gets warmer..etc) And than the person thinks there life will get better but never does, so the most sucides happen between spring / begging of summer.

well im catholic and it has always been u commit suicide u go to hell but lately the catholic religion..(idk bout many other)...has been questioning weither or not that is true because they say that if some1 takes their own life that they cannot be in the right state of mind to know....yeah...cause just a year or 2 ago some1 at my school shot himself and they had to talk to us and all about it..

College is F--- Tough. I wouldn't be supprised if one day I walk into a bank with a gun and rob some money cuz im so freaking poor and stressed out.

Most people go to school to better themselves but when you have to suffer 24/7 its a different story.

oh and btw.....no where in the bible/christian religion does it say you will go to hell for suicide. its merely just highly frowned upon in the community...but you can still go to heaven

Suicide is forbidden. "O ye who believe!... [do not] kill yourselves, for truly Allah has been to you Most Merciful. If any do that in rancour and injustice, soon shall We cast him into the Fire..." (Qur'an 4:29-30).


The Koran does tell Muslims, ''Do not kill yourselves'' and warns that those who disobey will be ''cast into the fire.'' The Prophet Mohammed is reported to have said that a suicide cannot go to paradise. Suicide for Jihad though is admirable and that a paradise of 72 virgins will await you for non-stop sex.

What about in Japan back in the old days (maybe even now, who knows) when someone dishonors his family and he committs suicide as atonement for his sin or rather than being defeated in battle by an enemy. Hara-kiri, its called i think.

organized religion is ridiculous, if you are a good person, you go to heaven, end of story.. all three major monotheistic religions now believe this.

i cant believe people still think there is some imaginary gold star system where you can only get to heaven with X amount of gold stars.

that sucks. a kid that graduated high school with me committed suicide a few months back. it was weird cuz he was a pretty cool guy in high school... honor student, ran track, school spirited, people loved him. made me wonder if he actually commited suicide. they found him in his car with the engine left running inside his garage. now how easy would it be to knock a guy out, place him in a garaged car, and leave the engine running. but then again i never really talked to him after graduation. anywho... i'm catholic. suicide is a one-way ticket to hell. that's my belief and i won't try to change anyone else's.
