notice how when the fight starts, all the refs just kinda kick back n watch. now im not a hockey fan nor do i play hockey, but i am big on baseball and basketball. n as soon as a fight breaks out in those sports, there is always someone (usually an official) quick to try n stop the fight..so im just curious, how come in hockey they just let it happen until someone gets knocked out??
Thats how hockey are, the refs do not get involved till someone gets knocked, one of them hits the ice or it goes nowhere.

Yeah its part of the game. People want to see the fights so the refs let them go for a little and then they'll stop it.

dam..kinda harsh dont ya think. I mean, all basketball fans would love to see fights every so often..but officials always step in and break it up. so even if people want to see fights, its not going to happen. so what happens if a player gets badly hurt cause of a fight?? im just asking out of curiosity, do they ever draw the line anywhere?
people have been killed playing hockey before, its usually a penalty and then a fine i guess?
oh, they draw the line. there have been a few "unnecessary roughness" calls before the helmets even come off. the nhl came down on a guy who ended another players career with a nasty check. forgot his name, but i'm sure someone will know who i'm talking about.

it's one of the cool things about hockey, imo. i think hockey players are typically among the very few athletes who actually work really hard for the money they make.

do you know who i am, mr. worley?

I think you are thinking of bertuzzi hitting moore, to get back at moore for blindsiding naslund in their previous matchup.

Part of the game, in some cases its necessary. Also its not like fedoruk got blindsided by a cheapshot. Orr tap'd him they both dropped their gloves and fought. Unfortunately fedoruk left his chin wide open as he tried to get a shot in on orr as orr was mid swing. If fighting ever gets taken out of hockey, they might as well take out checking and then itll be like that half assed roller hockey which is boring.

I played hockey growing up and in high school, we rocked cages or shields on our helmets so our pretty faces wouldn't be broken and we wouldn't loose any teeth from pucks, sticks, or fists. I wasn't particularly a fighter there were moments where I wanted blood from someone usually from a really nasty dirty hit. The refs would stop me or already be taking the guy to the box. But there were some boys on the team that they liked fighting. It really is a mentality more often than not you see the same old names doing the fighting in the league. They are the enforcers its their job.

Also usually its pretty simple, you don't wanna fight the guy don't drop your gloves and if the guy comes at you the refs will come stop him or at least try to.
