I would like to dispense with my EGR equipment, and do a vacuum reduction as well. I've studied the vaccum and emissions control diagrams, but I haven't been able to identify which parts are necessary and which aren't.

I saw there were a couple of threads that didn't get very far with this, I hope somebody has some good info.

i currently have a custom catch can on the pcv and one of those cheap little filters on the vcv. the catch seems to be doing it's job, but i'd like to see how much more of the unnecessary hardware i can lose. i'm aware that there needs to be vacuum in the vc for everything to work right, but some of the other stuff HAS to be optional.

If you mess with the EGR, the service engine light will come on, cylinder temperatures will be too high and the car would likely fail any emission test. It isn't going to make the car faster or increase performance. Vacuum reduction?? What are you talking about?

well, that's why i'm asking.

i know none of the stuff has 15 hp hidden in it. i want to clean up the engine bay, and instead of replacing the rotten vac lines i have now, i'd rather just get rid of them. every sensor on the motor has a fake. i'm sure some people know what wiring modifications you need to make to keep from throwing codes. i don't want to get rid of the pcv, vcv, or anything else that is a functional component of another device. the egr doesn't do anything that is useful to me.

michigan no longer has emissions testing.

perhaps vaccum equipment reduction would better suit your sophisticated grammatical palate.

It seems to me that it would be much easier and cheaper to just replace the leaking vac tubing than trying to remove those things and make the ECU think that they're still there.

Why? it certainly doesn't affect performance...

why? here's the best i can do:

1. it's ugly. somehow, show car owners have very little in the way of unsightly emissions tubing, valving, fittings, etc. while i'm not going for a "show" car, the engine can obviously function without them.

2. it has weight. i am not suggesting that it will be as effective as relocating the battery, but hatchback 6gens have a forward weight bias. every 5 lbs counts.

3. it's a bummer...at least on my car. i have fixed two vac leaks so far this year. i'm tired of messing with it. i know the engine doesn't need half of it to run reliably and safely, and i hoped there was someone out there with a better idea of the intricacies of the system than the manual provides.

i was just going to isolate line by line and see how things worked. i decided i'd see if any of the gurus had suggestions first.

its pretty much useless to do. If you want better weight bias, throw your battery in the back. An engine can work without EGR but your engine and ECU certainly hope its somewhere, It reduces your combustion chamber temperature, and that's a good thing.

If you want to disable the whole thing you can plug around 6 tubing to acheive it (normaly for diagnostic purpose), I dont remember which though.
