AE86 revival rumors - 6G Celicas Forums

rumors

they dont need it for money of course, but they need a car like this for people like us. and unlike a new supra (which would have considerable competition), this would sell for sure. toyota would just need to keep it light and cheap. if it was RWD, ~2200-2500lbs, ~150-200hp NA (2zz would be perfect, and maybe a supercharged 2az as an option), hardtop, and < $20k, it would have next to no competition.

and a depiction of what it could look like

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
i'm not a big fan of the design.. reminds me of like... a jetta.

however the specs you put would be good.

"Drive Well......Drift Better"
looks kinda like a lexus/VW/AE86....if it had the numbers and rwd i'd be considering it for 20k or less

don't hold your breath.

do you know who i am, mr. worley?
Does look like a corrado to me..needs to be a little more modern IMO, are those even from toyota???

Yeah and the Supra is on its way back too.

"Senior factions with Toyota have been keen to bring the car back, but the sales and marketing teams have so far torpedoed it because they can’t believe it would sell."

in the end it all has to make money.

edit: after reading this i was bopping through the net. and came across this photo:

Ford did it with the mustang....y not the celica? The AE86 throwback would be cool, but honestly, an old school celica throwback would be 100% better (looks wise) for power and what not....the AE86 is much better

If it would be RWD, I'd buy the white one. If it ever came out.

I will return one day.
I absolutely LOVE this idea! And the concept drawings are wonderful. They look like a 2 door IS300. I dont think they will go 2zz, i think Toyota has abandoned that engine. Perhaps 1zz? Doesnt need a lot of power, just a rwd, rigid platform and cheap price. Then the commuters will buy it and the tuners will adopt it.

Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it...
it would be nice to see two....one with the 1zz another with the 2zz. Some people would be happy with 180hp at the crank for "performance" opposed to the 1zz's 140hp at the crank. While they might not want to modify a BRAND new car, and void warrenties....but when theres a will...theres away...I could see some company modifing the car to some insane rwhp and drifting it retarted after being on the market for a week or less.

personally, id like to see a retro revamp celica (oldschool celicas were RWD people..) but id would definatly "settle" (if u want to all it that) for a retro revamp ae86

Lol..thats the background on my phone right now..i love that old celica. any ways, back on topic, if toyota did bring this back out, it handled like an AE and had close to the same steering geometry, i would buy one in a heart beat. I love AE86s, nothing like them in the world. Im gonna b waitin on this one if they do re-produce it.
lol, the Supra IS
this on the other hand... :\
lovin tha design! the tail-lights need to b redone though - they look kinda blah.... i'd be in for one
and if a RWD celica throwback comes out... omg - best believe i'll b in debt over that 1
looks like a saab.

I doubt it... and *IF* it does go into production... what are the chances of it coming here? We never get cool cars...

I think it looks alright, a bit too bubly. Sounds good though. I'd buy one.

You know, it's funny, read some of the comments in the first link, and some guy said:
"This thing won’t sell…who gives a s*** about a RWD Corolla? Nobody cares…Toyotas are FWD, period."

Ummmm, riiiight. Lol.

I like the looks of the silver better than the red one. If it ever comes out and is not just another car that never gets procude I'll get one, I mean RWD, light weight, and low cost + some tuning = really fun car to drive.
i'd buy one. the rear end kinda looks like a 7th gen on the pic of the red one.

Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
its the funky frontal look of a yaris coupled with the rear of the 7th gen laugh.gif
where do i sign?......

looks like it could be a fun one.

that red example must be pretty old, because it "anticipates" power from a 2NZ-FE with 120 PS, but the real 2NZ-FE is a 1.3 with about 90 ps... My guess is this was published before the "real" 2NZ debued in 1999...

only 120hp?

if something like this comes out, it'll most likely go under the scion name and be named something ghey like the scion rainbow or scion happiness
hmm... semi interesting. i think i'd rather buy a cheap rwd 120 hp stock car over an expensive fwd 200+ hp stock car. cuz i don't need another fwd car and neither does toyota.

ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.
