I’ve had my AT-200 for close to two years now and last night I decided to change my oil. Everything went smooth there (took me some time to find that damn oil filter) and I left it at that. This morning I started up my car to warm up and when I popped it into D, it wouldn’t move! I would hit the gas, and it would only inch forward. Wth? My revs shot up to 3k and it would only move inches. I popped it back into park and then drive again… same thing. Popped it into reverse then back into drive and bam! It began to move (still a bit slow). I went to work (34 miles away) and noticed that my shift shock had gone down (smoother shifts now…) and no other problems.

Should I be worried? I’m driving up to San Francisco from LA and I don’t want anything to happen when I’m out on the road. Help? Ideas? Thanks for any input.

just wondering if you took the wrong plug out...what color was the fluid....Red=auto tranny fluid. which means you added more oil into the engine. don't start in anymore until you drain the oil completely and add new stuff. if that's not.....i dunno then

check that you didnt jiggle the harness to the trans. sort of sounds like it defaulted to 3rd gear, which happens when it doesnt have any PCM input.

did you set you're e-brake and forget to let it down?

haha... I did that once like the day after I got the car, drove a few blocks like that too. it'll still move when you gas it, especially if you do it all the way to 3k, it just won't creep forward when you let off the brake.

After the first time in drive, i played with the ebrake a few times and still nothing. any one want to show me pictures of the engine oil drain and the tranny drain? just so i can be sure. i am about 99.9999% sure that i did drain was the engine oil...

problem solved. i am offically a moron. i drained the tranny and over filled my engine oil. 3qts of mobil 1 down the drain. so can anyone tell me what sort of damage i have done to my car or what i should now be looking out for?

yea, i feel pretty stupid but being this is my first time under any car, i would have to say mission complete on chaning my tranny fluid!

You might be ok. Refill all the fluids to their correct levels in their correct places and see what happens. IDK about filling Auto trannies - maybe that needs to be done with pressure.

No, just fill the trans through the check tube.

It should take ~ 4 quarts.
Put 3 in, start the engine, shift through the gears several times.
Check the level via the dipstick WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING.
Unless the car has been driven around, use the cold reading.

From 1 notch to the next is 1 PINT [NOT 1 quart, 1 pint].
That is 1/2 quart.
Top it off as necessary.

Get a trans funnel to fill it.
When you fill, do it slow. DON'T dump the whole quart in. It will leak out the top of the tube. Fill it a little bit at a time.

Oh, and don't be surprised if you have trans problems in the future.
You may not, but the trans uses hydraulic [fluid] pressure to move and lubricate. You might have burned up the clutch pacs.
Only 1 way to find out.
Drive the car.

thanks guys. i drove about 400+ miles today alone and the car is running smoothly. I guess that next 400 miles back home tomorrow should give me some sort of sign of things to come?

oh, and before i filled up with tranny fluid, the level was only a little below the first notch. so something was still left in there and i am crossing my fingers that it was enough to not cause any damage.
