my 92 gt recently had an engine fire so i have the opportunity to purchase a 96 st. how reliable are the st,s and are theyre any upsides to gettin one?

They are a bit slower, have great gas milage, better looking body style, and its a toyota so it's quality... and the engine fire you had in your GT is unfortunate, what caused it to catch?

St is a basic model so its a $ saver for sure and you can get some good long life outta it..
the motor is highly reliable and dependant requires very little maintenance.
lots of room to work on crap and normally pretty darn easy.
gas can be expected to be very nice no the pocket too
but if you like a little more oomf in your step i'd look into a gt the st is fairly slow

ST is slow, and the automatic version is probably painfully slow, but the gas mileage is nice in ST's. I filled up yesterday after getting 430 miles on 3/4 tank. That is about a 40/60 mix of highway/city driving. I averaged 35MPG.

i went from the auto st, to the manual gt...i had no idea what i was missing. the st is quite a bit slower. im not sure how much of a diff the gas mileage is though. good luck with the purchase or whatever you decide to do, they really are nice cars.
It's got enough oomph to beat a minivan at a redlight, but it's not very fast until you get into higher rpms. Mine zips around the freeway.
I'm doing a swap this summer though, but so far, gas mileage and reliability have been wonderful.

As far as I know they don't look any different. I'd look into the GT.

5th Gen vs. 6th Gen and yeah I would agree the 6th looks a little better - alot better than the narrow body 5th gens.

I believe he is referring to the 92 GT 5th Gen compared to the 6th Gen.

lol.
"It's got enough oomph to beat a minivan (unless it's plyr's) at a redlight"
fixed.
I took a minivan for fun the other day. He was driving like a douche nozzle riding me then pulled up next to me at a light and was looking at me funny.
I don't get why every guy in the area who drives a minivan feels the need to act like it's a race car. They're worse than the ricers around here.

They are still mad their wife makes them drive the grandma mobile. They feel the need to prove they are still tough at the light.
Yeah, him and his soccerball sticker were probably the most menacing thing I ever did see.
I got chills (from the rear climate controls firing out of the slight cracked status of the rear windows being opened as far as they possibly could).

160K isn't bad man. If you take care of it, it will go on forever.

depends on how much you're paying. mine was a steal. 108k one owner with all maint records in great condition for 2700.
Get a GT manual.
^correct
I like mine, it's kinda spunky. But I woulda been much happier with a GT.

I got mine with auto and did a swap for manual. (cost $300 for swap)
St is is good car, but tranny must be a manual if you want to enjoy driving.
One more thing. If you taller then 6.2 you not going to fit into the GT with sun roof. I'm so glad I got no sun roof in mine.
Good luck with buying Celi...

Autos are dogs period. I don't think the power difference between
a gt auto and st manual at the wheels is going to be that big, also
remember the st in stock form is lighter than the gt. If it is the anny,
editon it may have more options than most STs.

JDM guy made me do it.
only real difference I've noticed is racing (kinda) seats and floor mats. Besides that a couple of decals and badges.
Is there really much more of a difference between the ST and the ST 25 anni?

Just trim, the 97 LEs have full power standerd not sure about
the anny stuff except the celica stitching in the seats exclusive to 96,97.
I think all annys have it and some of the 97s have it.

yea its the anniversary edition 96. power everything, manual st. great condition well taken care of . it has 160k miles and the price is 3900 but he said make an offer.. so i dunno i really appreciate your opinions.
3900 seems a little steep...thats a good car as mentioned, id pay 3000, but im a low baller, its prolly worth a lil more than that. but the price def should go down a couple hundred for me at least.
