ok quick story me and a buddy decided to put or car up against each other ,his is a 99 svt stang he has ran a 13.993 1/4mi time , i have a 94 7afte celica that last year at the 1/4mi ran a 14.795 at 12psi , so we are at the track and for fun just to see what the 7afte can do we run , on take off he jumps out in front about 1 car ,but when he shifted to 2nd i ganned on him as my auto didnt lose any boost but gained a little . so i was down by half a car he hit 3rd and gaind a little then 4th and i started to pull on him hard by the last few 100rd feet i had him by a fender then i looked at my boost and seen it hitting 17psi heading towards 20psi then all of a sudden i heard the biggest kabam!!!! ever and i lost all power and thought to my self , crap there went the motor i look in the rear veiw to see smoke or something like that but i dont se any thing at the end of the track i turn to go back to the lanes and giver a little gas and the motor was going ok i was like wtf?? so back at the pits i opend the hood to see that i blew not only one but 4 couplers of and lost a part of my ic pipe , and the resone i boosted so high was one of my vac lines that control the boost controler melted on the header for the turbo . i have only pushed 15 psi once or twice but never 17-20psi. my buddy was totaly amazed that i all most beat him i ran a 14.097 and he ran a 13.957 , it was awesome but i dont think i will be pushing the 7a that hard anytime soon as now i need new couplers and i dont want to blow my little motor now i know i dont have slips as i dont care if you belive me i just want to share my story with you guys and maybe give some of you guys a smile or laugh

It gave me a smile, nice job man. I'm guessing aluminum charge piping? You should find someone to weld it for you.

yeah that is what i am thinking about i have way to many couplers plus i think i will get some from greddy instead of ebay they work good for 5-10psi but that is about it , as far as the rest of the car it is getting a few new mods to help aid the higher boost i would like to run but only time will tell

So you are boosting 12 psi with no internal mods?

yes but i put in new rings new mains and rod bearings and a new gasket set the mains and rods i had made from taiho japan with micro groove in them for better oil flow , i work at taiho and had one of our head supporter make them for me as far as the motor it seems very sound i run 12psi on track and every day i boost at 8-10 , at the track i can run racing fuel so i dont worry about the 12psi to much but daily driving i can only get 94 octang

that was with t-bolt clamps the clamps did not slip off the coupler popped open like some one took a knife and slit them open, they were just cheap ebay couplers i ordered a set from greddy and as far as 17psi maybe after i install the w/i kit, then look out svt stang the all powerful super 7afte will be in the house ( of in the garage being rebuilt due to the rod or piston goes bang) but hey it will give me a resone to swap in the 3sgte then right.
