Stee-raight midpipe! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #47286 10 posts Started by uberschall
I had been planning to cut out the stock midpipe on my GT and replace it with a straight tube for a while...since the weather improved today, I finally fired up the sawzall and made it happen.

Stock header, stock muffler. Sounds suprisingly mean.

Here are the videos.

BEFORE!

AFTER!

Let me know what you think!

do you know who i am, mr. worley?

sorry about the volume, i wanted to get on it a little more in the second vid, but by the time my project was finished, the neighbors were all in bed.

i laid some welds on the couple little leaks i had today after work, and i'm pretty satisfied with how it sounds.

I went with strait pipe for awhile. It was very raspy and hurt my ears. I put a couple resinators in and now it sounds better. Still really loud though. Give it a week or so, you'll probably get sick of it. If not, more power to you, man.

The stock resonator ALONE (minus muffler) works very well at muffling the exhaust buzz. The stock muffler on the other hand... ain't so great.

the tone is set by the resonator, the volume is controlled by the muffler. atleast it seems to be this way on the corolla/celica exhaust. well rather to clarify, the muffler just smooshes the sound pulses together into one small stream of sound through the use of chambers, baffles, and some fiberglass packing. a resonator just dampens high frequency noises by absorbing them with a packing material. low freq noises are not effected by resonators. thats why adding a resonator to an exhaust will 'deepen the tone' by removing the higher freqs.
