Haha, maybe I'm dumb, and sorry for the n00bish thread, but what is the difference between the GT and ST Celicas?

-Matt
heres a noobish answer...30 horspower

the St uses around 105 horsepower 1.8 liter 7afe engine
While the gt get around 130 horsepower 5sfe 2.2 liter engine

Your GT has only 130 BHP ???

wow, that's not so good kindasad.gif

Anyone know why they didn't give your GT's the 3S-GE? is it immisions or something?

cuz america sucks when it comes to cars. we only get the slowest 2 celicas. no ss-iii. no gt-four.

we did, on the 4th gen celicas... but still, they were rated about the same as the 5sfe now. around 135HP. still pretty weak.. but i'm not sure why they stopped putting the 3sge engine later..

ok, so just America got this weak engine and you don't know why? That sucks kindasad.gif

What sort of MPG do you get from the 2.2L?

the usdm st was only available with the 1.8l 7afe. it has rear drum brakes, 14" steel wheels, and a 4-speaker stereo. fewer of them have sunroofs, power windows, and cruise.

the gt came with the 2.2l 5sfe, 4 wheel disc brakes (abs optional), 15" alloy wheels, and was available with power windows, locks, mirrors, and sunroof...leather, and a 6 or 8 speaker stereo.

the different motors had different manual transmissions...the c52 in the st and the s54 in the gt. the gear ratios are slightly different to make use of the different power and torque curves.

all convertibles are gt's, but coupes or liftbacks came either way.

that's about everything i know. i probably left some stuff out, but there is an article in the "info articles" section iirc.

you should consult that too.

edit: i think toyota wanted to minimize their standalone engines. the 5s was a carryover from the camry, mr2, and rav4...and the 7a from the corolla/prizm. to my knowledge they weren't using the 3sge in anything else...which isn't the most economical thing for a company to do. i'm not sure why the celica was never offered with the 3sgte that they obviously had here through the sw20. i suppose that's an even better question.

i'm guessing it's because a Toyota is considered an average person's car because people with a lot of money would just buy a Lexus or BMW or something and definately not a Toyota... So the celica is like an average person's compact/sports car. So the car appeals to more people because they can afford it smile.gif

also, the 5th gen alltrac/gt4 didn't sell too well in the america so they didn't bring the 6th gen here.
