Battery Choice - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #47723 8 posts Started by elvasoshexai
I know the optima redtops are great batteries... but i heard if you store your car for a couple months, these batteries will run out of juice when u take it out from storage (even if you leave it disconnected)

so i'm wondering what's a good battery to get that also won't drain out when you bring it out from storage?

ac delco?
interstate?
kirkland?
energizer?
other?

All batteries slowly discharge over time. Its simply the battery technology's fault.

i dont have a preference to brands. So I recomend the one with the longest warrenty.

Have you considered a trickle charger?

this is the one i use. It solar power and keeps my alarm system from killing my battery.

solar charger
AC Delco has a good warranty. I can't say they have the best CCA but just don't get rebranded batteries, they are either refurbished or recharged.

Yellow Top FTW

Wait - I don't know who told you that about the redtop but they were wrong. That is the difference between the redtop and the yellow. It goes something like this:
Redtop - starter battery - good for extended storage [ie tractors, rvs, etc] http://www.optimabattery.co.uk/english_opt..._top_optima.htm
Yellowtop - deep cycle - fast recharge/higher output [ie cars with systems etc.] http://www.optimabattery.co.uk/english_opt..._top_optima.htm
Bluetop - Marine battery [ie boats etc.] http://www.optimabattery.co.uk/english_opt..._top_optima.htm

Anyway - I don't know how true this is but thats what Optima supposedly designed them for - longterm storage. All I can say for sure is that since I got my Redtop I've never had one problem starting the car even if I work on it all day and then all night - it still starts with no hesitation. And I used to run DieHard gold series batteries and they suck bad compared to this one [always had to get a jump after modding the car]. My friends use yellowtops and they are incredible batteries. Most of those guys have insane systems too.
I'll never go back to a conventional battery.

my car starts up fine even after 2-3 weeks w/o driving. after that is when it needs a boost.

originally i was gonna get a red top... but i didn't wanna waste the $ on the optima red top if it had the storage issue. but if it works fine even after long periods of storage i'll most likely get it

I've had a red top for about 2 years now. No problems, starts up quick, starts up other cars quick while jumping.
