I just hooked up a 1400w amp to 2 subs. At my schools car show i was watching my rpms as i cranked the volume for my chem teacher lol, but anyway the rpm needle bounces at the idle from around 300 to 500 rpms, not a huge jump but enough for me to notice...

Bad or not bad?

should i change something?

thanks

so does yours do that too with the AC? mine will idle around 800.. then drop to like 500 for a few secs.. then bounce back to 800.. plus when i'm driving.. it seems like it studders.. instead of a nice steady acceleration.. makes it more.. choppy...

yea it is a pretty crazy idle, but i seafoam the engine like crazy and i add just about everything u can get to clean your engine on a monthly basis, oil treatment, gas treatments, valve treatments, blahblahblah, and that helps lower and smoothe the idle.

I dont think i had my AC on but ill check tonight when i go to crew, but my AC is sorta always on, even if the dial is in the off position it still blows a slight amount of air, i never really looked into it, thought it might be common in older celicas.

thanks

not caps....GAPS.....u did gap yoru spark plugs b4 u put em on right?????
hmmm, i was thinking that maybe your "sapping" so much power from your battery that it puts an extra load on your altenator, ya know, cause the car is working harder to produce, or keep its spark..maybe re-gapping the spark plugs might help in getting a more constant spark...

havnt touched my plugs in a while, never heard of gapping either, im not an engine guy, interior and wiring are my specialties, i just do intakes, headers, simple bolt ons, and regular maintenence on the engine, ill try gapping or watever later, thanks

"Gapping a spark plug. Gapping a spark plug is the process of ensuring the gap between the two electrodes is correct for the type of engine the plug is going to be used in. Too large a gap and the spark will be weak. Too small and the spark might jump across the gap too early. Generally speaking, the factory-set spark plug gap is just fine, but if you're running an older engine, or a highly tuned engine, then you need to pay attention to the gap. Feeler gauges are used to measure the gap, and a gapping tool is used to bend the outer electrode so that the gap is correct."

Gapping the spark plug as explained by carbibles.com ^_^
its actually pretty easy, so with youll definatly have no problems with it
