Celica not passing emissions test in cali, help? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #47889 16 posts Started by cyberrick
HI!

My 94 celica won't pass the test only. I have a short arm intake with a k&N filter and I was told by the technician to replace it with the stock one. Is that going to help a lot? Problem is that I don't have my stock system anymore. What options do I really have? I really don't have much money to spend on my car since I just use it to commute to school and work. It is mechanically is perfect condition but apparently the emission are a little high. I will be doing a full tune up to the car this weekend but I really don't know what to do about the stock air filter box. Any help will be greatly appreciated. smile.gif
That's not gonna fail you on smog. Do the tuneup [especially ignition ie plugs, wires, cap and rotor - you wanna burn as much fuel as possible] and if you can afford it replace the o2 sensors and cats. You probably just have really old smog components.

Your car will not pass smog in california with a sri on, It did not pass the visual inspection of the car. You need to put back your old stock intake unless your sri is registered as a smog legal which i highly doubt. Takes about 5 min to put back on.
^ x2. the only smog legal intake i know of is the injen one. i kept my stock airbox and replace my cai once a year for smog.

ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.

Uh you only have to smog once every two years.
Thanks for the help guys, I am pretty sure it failed the visual inspection they had "tamper" on it. The emissions were high as well. I will do my tune up and see if I can find a stock box. I had mine in the garage and my dad threw it away thinking I didn't needed anymore. If anyone has one I can borrow or buy for the test I would be interested. If it's borrowed I can paypal the shipping costs. Thanks!
Check the junkyards down by the border. I know that 6g celicas are hard to find in salvage lots but I think a stock Camry 5sfe intake box should be the same.

Here's a link to reviews about yards in San Diego: San Diego Yards
show us the results, mine failed twice before i cheated to pass, i got a injen intake, had to replace egr solenoid, bad cat acan be a cause too seeing that you have a 94
why is the injen the only one that can pass it? what makes it different?

only one thats carb legal, if you got cool smog ppl, they wont care about cai or whatever
Oh man i threw mine away like a dumb ass too. I went to the junk yard and found an stock intake from a corolla 7afe, it fit perfect and i am definitely holding on to that one. kindasad.gif
any intake other than stock has to be CARB approved in order to be legal in california. it will have a sticker on it saying it's CARB approved if it is. the injen has this sticker, any other intake won't.

My Curren failed emmissions in Cyprus a couple of years ago. The reason was that it needed a tune up as the previous one was years before that. I drove it a bit hard for 20 minutes so that the injectors and fuel system got cleaner and then it passed just fine. From then on I take it to my mechanics for a tune up and they deal with it.

I think the TRD drop-in has one LOL. Not that they'd see it anyway.
