Topic #48023 19 posts Started by cyb593
could we use the mr2 trd short shifter? i know we can use both celicas but the 00-05 takes modding. but what about the mr2 short shifter. should be basically the same right?
i just bought my 7th gen shifter, waiting for shippment......ill let you know how it goes and the modding needed, but as undasighted said there shouldnt be much. i see what you mean about the trd tho, you just drop it in.
Why wouldn't you use the 6th gen Short throw shifter?

-Mikemjcoury@gmail.comTeam Reynolds StyleCelica BlogCelica WikiIt will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180 degree turn at speed, but you will be ready for it. Brace for the g's, and fast heel-toe work.
because paying 200 dollars seems kinda sh!tty for something I could spend 40 on that works just as well?

@_-

seriously. that whole arguement has been done to death. At this point the horse would be a bloody pulp. Look in the link I posted. It also includes instructions a page or two in.

i can use any 7th gen shifer, right?? i found one by megan racing and another by fidanza...like 55-60 bux.
I'm pretty sure, but I don't think any of the guys on here bought brand name shifters. The ones we got are pretty much the same quality.

I love mine. There's a huuuuge difference.

No, you cannot use the MR2 short shifter on a Celica

I did. Thanks to Pittfirefighter I have the newer TRD shifter - perfect length. The 7th Gen ones are too short IMO. My friend had one on his 7th Gen GT - accidently misshifted - goodbye motor. bent valves FTL.
I still have my old 10% reduction TRD shifter gathering dust in the garage. I shortened it by another 1" tho. I'll end up putting it on one of the local Celicas around here eventually.
hey undasighted could you post up a pic of your 7th gen shifter installed? even tho ive already bought mine and im waiting for it to come in, i want to see the size relationship between it and the trd.

Sure, I'll grab a couple pics after work.

I bought a 7th gen short shifter on ebay for 40 bucks. Works great.

And they have a write up on here for it.

not really any modding involved. You replace the raisers with the bigger ones they provide with the shifter and that's pretty much it.

Takes a while though.

Thanks. Now I understand why some of those short shifters are so cheap and much harder to install. The TRD is the whole assembly with the white plastic peice and all. I changed mine out on my lunch break including taking out and putting back in the dash peices. I'm soooo glad I got the TRD one now.
^ yeah a lot of people would rather do that...its so much easier, but id rather save like 160$ when it comes to a short shifter

^right?

Honestly, mine really does make a difference. It isn't as nice as the TRD ones, but for something that's hidden under a boot, takes more time to install and saves me over 100 dollars, I'm good with it.

I'm not saying the TRD one is any nicer - just easier to instal. I think I could very easily shorten peoples stock shifters without diassembling them just by cutting and welding. I know I did my old 10%red TRD one. If you don't know the pre-'99 TRD shifters were only a 10% reduction in throw. Stupid way to waste money as you can barely feel the difference. I even have the old add in the garage somewhere cause I used to show people cause it was kinda funny. I have since gotten the new one which was a noticeable diff over even the old TRD one and then took my old TRD one and shortened it even further than that. Not sure what I'm gonna do with that one yet.
I had thought about just trying to cut down the stock one. I'm happy with the 7th gen one that I got though. It woulda been a lot nicer to just drop in the whole assembly though.

And I forgot to get pictures last night. I'll try to get em soon.
sounds like you're liking my shortshifter negative smile.gif
