I NEED HELP WITH PAINTING MY INERIOR INSERTS ! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #48184 41 posts Started by NaderG
I Dont know how to do it or how to do it ! do i need a compressor ? or just spray paint , how do i spray a clear coat ????? i am a beginner and i would also like someone to walk me through how to take the inserts out fo the door panels ! plz HELP!!!
Krylon areosol spray paint in a can, no priming, just scuff it up a bit and clean it with a water /rubbing alcohol mixture then spray it on. as for taking the dash inserts out, drivers side vent, pops out with a bit of force, shift surround pops out with some force, around the radio and vents, there are 2 screws you will see at the bottom where you took the shift surround off, un-do them and pop it off. As for the passanger side vent, i dont know of any one who has taken it off without damaging it, but a pick and some force.
I already posted in your other thread about how to do all of this. Please do not make a new thread for something, update your old one.

Take the pieces out, sand them a bit, spray a couple layers of primer, spray a few layers of color, spray a couple layers of clear. You can do it all with spray paint. Go to a hobby type store, somewhere where they sell model cars and buy "Testors" spray paint.

i get mine at Canadian Tire and Micheal's craft store
i prefer testors model spray cans, they make LOTS of awesome colors, including "boyd" colors (boyd coddington) ect, and since its made for models, it sticks well to the plastic parts.
i do use primer, and sand things down REALLY well to get a nice smooth apperance on them.
i start with like 100 grit to get the texture out, and work my way up to 400-600 then primer, color, and clear.
make sure you use all one type of paint, meaning, if you buy laquer paint, make sure your clear is also laquer. and same with enamel.
good luck!

ok , i cant seem to get the door panel apart ! any tips on how to take the panel with all the keys out ??
The door panel is one piece. It cannot be taken apart. To take it out you need to remove the triangle that covers your mirror. Just give it a twist and it pops out. There are four screw/bolts along the bottom, 2 on the inside of the door(where the door meets the side of the dash), 3 tabs on the outside of the panel(where it meets the B-pillar area), the screw that holds the trim around the door lever and also one way up inside the handle you grab to pull the door shut. Once all of those are out you should lift up and out. The door panel will come off.

Project is Done !! took more time and effort than i thought it would but it looks great ! , i dont own a camera so i cant host any pics , but thanks everybody for all your help
Glad it came out looking good. For future reference, I've used Krylon Fusion on plastic parts and had great success.

One more Questions for you guys : now i know that using a clear coast helps protects it but what if it is scratch damaged ( in the future0 , any tips on how to touch up the lil paint job ?? also i think i didnt put a thick enough clear coat .. is that bad ?
If you don't think you put on enough clear, take it back out, sand it a little, and spray as many layers of clear as you like.

alright... a lil off topic but, have any of you guys regreted painting your interior peices...i guess im just a little concerned with the heat when you park your car affecting the paint, or the paint getting cracked or faded, idk. i just have never been sold on the idea...it looks good but does it last?

i know what you mean. i had the same concern . best thing to do is to buy a 2nd pair of all the plastics you want painted. that way, if you mess up, or change your mind, you can always go back to your stock ones. you could also take them to a body shop and ask them to paint them for you. it would probably cost about 100bucks or so to do.

nah i love my interior painted it turns heads, and i always get asked who did that for one...i'll be like no one I did...that never gets old
To post pics on forums u have to find a site that will allow you to get the URL or HTML code for it,just about everyone uses photobucket.com,its complety free and allows you to post in your threads, signitures, and avitars.Anyway i was thinking of painting my interior silver in a while, does anyone have pic or this or photoshop?

I would not know , lol , but regarding the black/silver approach , i am going for the same thing !! hope we dont end up with the same results !
Yea no offense but ur interior isnt shiny enought for me,theres to much whiteness in the paint,i think ill get like some paint with some kinda shiny glitter or something but im not complety sure.ANd yea when we are done we should have likea celica meeting for northern cali.

BANNED. for life, you moron.
well yes , i sprayed it with a lil dulling coat cause it was too shiny , i didnt want any glare like effect ...also it looks white in the pictures ( cant deny) ....i live in southern cali so a northern cali meeting would be a bit too far for me .
ok well w/e,yea idk mabye a shiny interior will be to distracting but idk yet.

shiny interiors ftl
i like yours thumbsup.gif
ftl?what does that mean,ok no one has ever done any kinda like custom interior with the stock panels? Also can i just go to the toyota dealership and buy some new interior panels if i screw my current ones up?Also how much do u think it would be for the complete interior dash interior set??

i have not searched arround for part nombers for the trim peices but i would expect it to be quite expensive ... you can try junk yards and stuff and see if you can find an interior intact that way you will have back-up pieces ..... i am starting to see some scratches here and there in my painted parts which really get on my nerves , its not really clear but i tend to be a perfectionist.......what i am trying to say is there is no way you will do it to be "factory" yes it will probably go bad in a while but you can always do it agian and again .......trust me its worth it , it makes the interior look like a new car's interior
