I got my car weighed - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #48212 24 posts Started by ra65_22re
So the other day my buddy at work told me that there is a weigh station close to my work. Its for semi truck trailers but there is just enough room for a car to squeeze on there. So I drove on, got out and just looked at the scale and saw that my car weighs 2930lbs. She is a porker but i love her. I dont know why everybody thinks it's fast. Maybe its the new wheels?

that's heavy. like almost gt-four heavy. only you don't have the engine or drivetrain or what-not.

Weights aren't ever very accurate. Mine weighed last time I was at the track... I dunno... 3 years ago... something like 2600 pounds with 16's and 1/2 tank of gas. It depends on the scale, the fuel, the wheels, the tires, speakers, crap in the car, sunroof, etc. Lots of little things.

And yeah... I do expect the typical GT to be around 2800-2900 pounds. The 5S isn't a exactly a small lightweight motor compared to other 4 bangers.

Just to state the obvious.

Our celica's where pretty well equipt from the factory. We get alot of goodies stock like power mirrors and rear windshield wipers (hatchback).

If you look at the stock GT, it comes with alot of weight adding extra's (power window/power mirrors/rear wiper/power antenna/power sunroof) that you normally will not find on your cheap honda civic.

oh yeah, I know that the GT is packed with all kinds of goodies that add weight. but it's still rated at 2580 lbs. so I don't see how it could gain like 400 pounds from a set of wheels and a full tank of gas.

.....2,415 lbs...........2,395 lbs.........2,580 lbs.............2,560 lbs..........2,755 lbs.

cause those are dry weights. The final product will rarely ever be even remotely close to those weights.

when my car was weighed it has half a tank of gas, two tens in the back, a 17in spare tire, adn the gt4 wing. so i def added some weight to mine.
i dont drive with anything extra in my 2dr coupe but what comes with it off the showroom floor. (spare tire, tire iron, manual booklet.) so pretty light...then i add 600 lbs of me and my 2 homies. my suspensions complaining, and the engine bi#$('s frown.gif
yeah, with 4bangers its really esy to notice added weight, especially people.
i had three people in my car, it made it slower, and i couldn't stop as easy

Our 5SFE weighs within 50lbs. of a Corvettes LS1...
whats with 5s engine? so it gets crappy gas mileage, crappy horespower output, and now i find out it weighs almost as much as a 345 hp LS1?

at least its sexy though....
keep in mind the 5S came out over 17 years ago...

Car #3: 98 Accord LX- purchased 5/06, totaled 8/06Car #2: 95 Celica GT- purchased 8/03, current daily driverCar #1: 01 Focus ZX3- purchased 5/01, sold 8/03
i tipped 2720 at the dragstrip yesterday, full tank of gas and me in it. sans backseat and spare, though. if you subtract me and add the rest of the interior, it's probably about 2670.

do you know who i am, mr. worley?

What's with it? Its cheap! The 5s is why so many Americans swap out the engine for a 3s or something else.
