4A-GZE Head/SC - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #48500 18 posts Started by Daftboy
Ok so I am doing some research too see what I want to do with my engine....I was thinking of going NA for awhile but after doing a comp. test yesterday I think I may go another route. I searched around a bit and I remember reading about a 7afe with a 4age head on it. I was thinking of maybe putting the head on from a 4a-gze and SC'n my motor. Id probaly you the SC12 too start and maybe move up to the s14 if all was well. Any ideas , comments aabout this are welcome.

I was actually looking into this lastnight myself, i found some very loose articles on celicatech about it but nothing too detailed... Has anyone done this before? 7agze? lol

See with me the thing is I don't care for turbo that much...a supercharger is a lot more up my ally or NA ...there are no SC for the 7afe (there are i think but impossible to find) so instead i would but on that head and the put the 4age forged pistons in and hopefully be good to go.

first this is in the wrong section lol supercharger = force induction

there is no much info about the 7AGZE because most people go for the hybrid engine with turbo, since supercharger won't offer HP gains to compensate for the cost.

the process if done the right way is more complicated than slapping the head and swaping pistons, the 7AG X E is a very expensive set-up but it'll be wel compensated at the end

there is a lot of info that is useful even if you decide to go with the supercharger.

to do that build would require a lot of time/money and it would need a lot of tuning to get it to run right. like all other 7A owners I thought about doing this, but I did some research and it wouldn't be worth it in the end... but you should weigh your options yourself, I have some links on my laptop that I'll post for you later (remind me if I don't)

thank you stevenson....I just was saying what i wantted too do...want to see if the head would even fit up first before proceding

in theory it does fit. lol

but on practice there are a lots of little things that need to be change / upgrade / work on than add up pretty quck as most of the job has to be done by a machine shop.

I remember nki's car, at the end he had over 300 hp with a very safe tuning, but I also remember it cost him 10 k +
who knows....=/

Cooling channels don't line up properly, and you would need GZE pistons. Also, I don't think you can run a GZE ECU, so you would need standalone.

It would be a pretty sweet swap once it was done, but... the work involved.... I don't think its worth it.

this is the engine i want to have someday in my mk1 mr-2 that i'll get someday.

iirc you start with a 4agze and then use the gze pcm with a safc2 or other piggy back and use the 7afe block. it gets tricky with the crank/cam stuff since the 7afe crank pulley wont work with the 4agze belt, so you need to get something special setup to work there.

why go to all that trouble to sc it? The sc12 and sc14 are too small for some with only 1600ccs. If you want more power make a 9age because the 7a crank is so so for high hp.
the 7afe crank holds up fine upto 250-300whp from what i've read around at various places. they run a smaller super so that the powerband is broad and very streetable, not peaky.

it would be FAR easier to use a 7afe complete motor and getting a vortec supercharger custom setup...7afze yo

I though about that, but since they don't have a set-up for our cars someone has to step up and be the test pig on this.
its not "terribly" difficult just takes some time

find out belt rotation direction (clock or counter clock)
pick out a V5 F-trim Vortech S/C with appropriate direction, pulley size (do some math), 8psi would probably be on the money MAYBE 10psi

get a 1/2" thick 12" x12" metal sheet figure out how to make a bracket to mount the SC inline with the belts
get a longer belt...and some piggy back controller smile.gif

haha simple lol
why not doing the other way round? get a gze front clip, fully convert it over and thn put up the 7A block into it?

if i was not wrong, the distibutor was the main culprit on why GE head is not as direct swap as it is. which explained why u need standalone instead of piggyback also

pls correct me if im wrong
if you get a 4agze....you might as well just swap it in since the motor mounts are in the same place as a 7afe....putting a 7afe block would be anti-progression IMO...so thats more of a motor swap

a supercharged 7afe would be opening more doors and progressing the 6gc even further

there are a few celica's here, using a sc12 or a eaton m45. not sureabout other possibilities
