so ive been runnin a short ram on my st with a breather on the breather hose nipple instead of a hose,
Is there a better place to put the breather filter?

Well, your air induction hose is the intake tubing from the TB to the air filter.
But that's not what you're asking.
You're looking for the breather hose.
It's part of the PCV system [let's the crankcase breathe when there's relatively high pressure in the intake system].
It connects to the intake tubing.

i believe the breather hose you're talking about is nonexistant on an ST
along w/ these wonderful MAF and AFM things.
we get the amazing MAP sensor

anyway, the pcv hose goes directly to your intake manifold.

hello chap.
looks like your mate has got an oil catch tank. You dont need the breather hose. You need a filter connected directly to the throttle body with a bent hose etc.
Any little hoses coming of it should be blanked off.
