This is the stuff I'm talking about. I've got a stock ST and according to this it will add up anywhere from 20-40 hp to my car with simple instalation and me being the kind that can't blow anymore than $100 on this kind of stuff was wondering if they actually work? have somekind of gimmick or are they useless crap?

Worth it? If not then how can I add some HP to my stock car without busting out the big bucks?

no.. it really doesn't.. let me explain how it works..

it just tricks your ECU to thinking that the air going into the engine is much colded than the air really is. So since your ECU doesn't know the differance it just shoves move gas also.. decressing gas millage, adding absolutely no HP at all.. this question is asked probably on every car forum.. and the answer is always the same. No it doesn't. Don't you think if you could add 40 HP for ten bucks that everyone would be on this?

Now to your other question..

Go get a short ram, or cold air intake.. they don't cost that much, i recormend short ram, don't have to worry about water getting into your engine. You can get these off ebay for 70 bucks and install yourslef..

There really is no EASY, or CHEAP way to add HP to a ST. I have one and i know.. barely anyone makes good aftermarket for the ST. My friend has a old honda accord and theres about 30 times more aftermarkter for that, than our cars.

I'll go take a look at cold air intake and some spark plugs instead I guess.
yeah it sucks with the celica, they aren't that comman especially around here with only like 10 of the 6 gen version in my whole city. But whatever I would rather drive this than the same car everyone else has.

somewhere on here theres a thread about intakes: short ram vs cold air vs just a drop in to the stock and iirc they were all about the same, throttle response differed and the cool throughty sound differed but it comes down to price and how much "bling" you want. its an st imo, wouldnt go too crazy on a 7a, enjoy the economical side of the car since thats what it was designed for, ans economical sports car that looks good and handles great

advance your timing 5 degrees and run 89 octane fuel, that'll add more than any chip ever will.

yeah the 7A isn't made for performance.. but it looks like a fast car.. so just make it look nice, people will think it goes fast and you can let them think what they want.

they are complete ****...if you want you can have mine...lol or you can go to radio shack and buy a .65 cent resistor...basically all it is....didnt do much

lol...the theory behind these things is that you install this "chip"..IE resistor, either on your air intake temp wire inline, or on your watertemp sensor. What this does is build up extra resistance in your wiring, then when the computer gets the signal, the computer reads it as theres not enough signal, so there fore your engine is running cool or your sucking in alot of cool air. There for your car can run a bit hotter, and some how that translates to more power. Im guessing because hotter engine, hotter engine bay, more complete combustion...but its all a pile of crap. Dont spend your money on this crap, only "chip" your gonna get that will do any power difference is pretty much any sort of AFC, even though thats not a "chip" but it piggy backs onto your computer and you can adjust your fuel curves accordingly and can squeeze out a few HP here and there.

yeah they DO NOT WORK. i had one cause i had the spare $30 and wanted to see if it did work.... tryed it for a week then cut the thing out cause my milage went down and i didnt notice anything.
