Think This Will Help For Clarifying Body Styles? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #48979 22 posts Started by Coomer
Edit: Re-Designed Page Preview Available Lower On This Page

I'm looking at options to clarify the difference between coupes/fastbacks/notchbacks (I know they're both coupes technically, but most North American members associate the word Coupe with the Celica fastback/notchback, so coupe will have to stay) and hatchbacks/liftbacks. What do you guys think of this?

Any input, especially suggestions to make this better or different ideas completely, would be appreciated. smile.gif

I would probably use unmodified rear ends (ie rear skirts not available in US might be confusing?)

Anyone who calls a coupe, a "fastback" or "notchback" should be slapped in the face.

That's a very ignorant statement. rolleyes.gif

Outside of North America, most people would call both the Celica fastback/notchback and Celica hatchback/liftback a coupe. Therefore, to be specific, the term fastback or notchback is necessary.

u can use a pic of my car coomer if u want :-P

Coomer you amaze me all the time with this site

Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City
looks good. I think the pics definately help people so they know which to choose.

x2 on the unmodified cars though. Not that i'm agianst Sabrina's car representing the convertibles wink.gif..lol

one question, why the "N/A" under body style? if your an owner of a 6th gen, those are the only three options you have..lol

that's a great idea Mr Coomer, I dig it.

Just a suggestion, some members own more than one 6gc, can you make it so we can list both ? Or would we have to choose only one to list ?

I could, but I don't have the time to change the backend to account for this, and would rather put time into other features. For those very few members with multiple sixth gens, they'll have to choose just one. wink.gif

some members on the forum do not own a 6th gen celica

some may be looking for one or used to own one... or may be in love with them in general

I think that way would help out a lot of people, there are simple to many conflicting terms when you're dealing with multiple languages or locations.

I also agree it would be best to use pictures of stock celicas (perhaps the same color if possible). The position and angle of the cars in the shown pictures is ideal to make out the differences, so I would try to get similar pictures.
once again, major props chris.
i agree with erik, i think you should use pics of non-modded rears.

Looks perfect to me.

I admire your desire to improve the site. thumbsup.gif

People can only get to the "Edit Celica" page if they've marked that they own a sixth gen. Celica. smile.gif

Here's what I came up with:

What do you guys think?

I totally agree. Less attractive, but more clear.

And I couldn't find the right angle on a stock-spoiler/spoilerless white coupe either, which I'm not real happy about. Maybe I can get Derek to take a pic of his car at the right angle for me. smile.gif

That would be sweet if you could take a pic at approximately the same angle as the coupe and 'vert. smile.gif

i like the idea..will make things easier for new ppl and people who arent from North america. Over in like europe and stuff they call most 2 door cars, weither they are a coupe or a hatch back, a coupe mainly cuz coupe means 2 door. Just like we call it a sedan and they call it a saloon.

But back on topic, i think its a good idea.
