Oh the blue Lights - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #49003 21 posts Started by 6gcSTVT
So I got 10, 194 blue bulbs from ebay last fall and finally decided to put them on my car. Where? you may ask... I put them in my rear license plate lights to start... illegal? Idk but i haven't been picked up for them in over 2 months. I then went ahead and bought the tundra clear door light covers ($5.02 ea) and installed the blue lights in the doors. I then got creative and put them where they shouldn't fit such as my trunk light and glove box (little customization). Since every light on the car runs off 12v I knew i couldn't overload or blow any fuses unless i crossed positve and Neg paths (which i did messing with my dome light so I stopped my custom bulb installation there.) Here are the pics at night but to be honest they don't show how bright they actually are. Heres some pics:

Yup, it is illegal to display blue light on your car.
BTW, It's the "current" that causes the fuse to blow, not the "voltage".
Higher wattage bulbs (or too many small wattage bulbs) can draw too much current and blow the fuse.
Each 12-watt bulb draw 1 amp. 5 of them in the same circuit draw 5 amps. 6 of them will blow 5 amp fuse.

Just take out the whole light houseing in the glove box (easy) and pull out the light then bend the new bulbs wires so they look like a 2 pronged fork and insert them into the socket and then put the black plastic grill over it which also helps keep it in place pretty snug. Make sure you put the bulbs 2 wires on the small little gaps on the outside of the socket so it is more firm in place. None of my stuff in the glove box hits the light at all when i close it.

^^^^^I assume you mean bulb size?

I used 194 for glove box and trunk (not the right ones, so i had to go custom bc i'm lazy to buy the right ones on ebay)

blue is absolutely illegal to display, and police will give you a ticket if you cannot turn it off... like license plate, blue is reserved for emergency personnel, firefighters in some states like PA, cough cough, and police in others

Breaking Axles...
im pretty sure blue is illegal, put it inside your car should be ok.

Illegal? no way biggrin.gif I do have the original white ones in my car as a back up WHEN an officer pulls me over.

Future Conversation:

Officer: Those blue lights are illegal.
Me: I have the originals right here sir, would you like to watch me put them back in?(bust out tools and changes lights)
Officer: have a nice day

More like:
Officer: License and registration please
You: Here they are, why am I being pulled over?
Officer: You have blue lights on your car, wait here ...
Officer walks back to his cruiser, 5 mins later he comes back
Officer: Here is your citation, you have options to ....... Do you have any question? Have a nice day. laugh.gif

well depending where you go they will lead whether or not you get a ticket from a cop. especially since they wouldnt be able to read ur license plate from afar yeah itll piss of a good number of cops. but dont take my word for it. good luck
Yeah, Red lights (other than brake lights) and blue lights are reserved for emercency vehicles only. My friend had red bulbs lighting his plate and he got pulled over for it. He did the same thing though.. He had the bulbs in his ashtray and got out and changed them... and THEN got his ticket.

it depends on the state i got pulled over in alabama or whoever you spell it for blue snake eyes. but here in ga cops dont care unless they are flashing from what i understand.

All cars have them.

I had orange in my liscene light never goproblems. Just depends on the area mostly
Looks nice, but if a cop does pull ya over for em, just switch em out for the originals..or get white leds..may not be blue, but they still look hot.

Cali cops would prolly pull you over right quick, the love givin citations =\

Oh yeah, those blue lights in the license plate bezel are all kinds of illegal. Getting a ticket is entirely circumstantial though, Depends on where you are, who the cop is, stuff like that. All I'm saying is never drive through Southern Illinois with those. Cops here don't have any real crime to fight, so giving traffic citations is the only thing they can do.

Seems like my email isn't letting me know of new postings on my thread here. Well as an update on the blue lights... I got pulled over 4 times from the summer of '07 and into 2008 and was told to change them each time and I started going into burlington (our small city) more often and drinking a little as well so I changed back to white to avoid getting picked up for the blue lights and also get tagged for having a couple beers.

I would go back to blue but I've been pulled over enough times and given so many verbal warning's that it's not worth it to have my luck run out at this point.
