Speed Sensor - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #4908 8 posts Started by TrDcElica6thgen
i was taking a look at the "Terminals of Engine ECU" and i noticed a terminal named "speed sensor". Anyone know if this is releated to the speed limmiter?

The speed sensor is actually on ur tranny. It reads how fast your going and sends that to the ecu, the ecu in turn tells the speedo. The limiter is in the ECU, you cant take it out physically, u have to bypass it or disconnect the sensor, which is not great to do. When u reach a certain speed, the ECU says thats enuf and cuts ur fuel.

cutting it will cause a check engine light when traveling at high speeds for a few minutes.

its something i would put a switch on, so that i could disable it when i feel like trying to go faster than 115.

btw gt's do no have a speed limiter

No kidding, at the dyno the mechanic said he couldn't get my car past 100, but I think that's because OD was off, and it was pushing 3rd pretty hard. Or maybe my car is messed up, I hope not.
you could unplug the speed sensor. that would um, not allow the ECU to know how fast you're going...buuuut, as someone else mentioned, if you really wanna do this, then it'd be best to just put a switch somewhere in the line. >smile.gif>.

with the OD that car will not go past 100mph. i accidentally hit the OD button while going 105mph and the rpms shout up to about 300-400 past redline and was hitting the revlimiter.

cool indy car sound, scarry as hell feeling.

as for the speed limiter, you have a GT, dont worry about it, seeing as how you dont have one.

but many ST's have one, i would not recomend disabling the speed sensor with auto trannies since the ecu controls them based on speed, if youy want to do it, you would need a switch, and only hit the switch when you are well into 4th gear.
