JDM Projectors - Did you do the LHD Conversion? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #49121 23 posts Started by Celicav
Alright, so I won my Low beam projectors off Ebay and they are in route. I have read up on installation (thanks Tina, Jason), LHD conversion (thanks Kadett), etc. So, questions for the US/LHD driving members in here that have installed the Projectors -

>>Did you do the the LHD conversion in order to supposedly not "blind" oncoming traffic? If you did not, have you had a lot problems with people flashing their lights back at you?>> From my searching, it does not seem that many have done the conversion (or they just don't post it). I would really like to get as many responses as possible to get a feeling for how bad the problem really is in affecting the oncoming cars.

Did you not TRY the conversion due to risk of damaging these very expensive lights? Yeah, the whole taking the glass off and putting back on scares me too. Maybe I'll just pay Kadett to do it or try this new aluminum foil idea proposed by Culpable biggrin.gif

>>Finally, if your state requires annual inspections, do these projectors cause any issue, esp. if you did not do the LHD conversion? >>

Thanks!! wink.gif
ive had mine on for several weeks and i have yet to have anybody flash me once. in my opinion, its not a big enough problem to mess with them

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
i converted mine to TSX projectors. so no blinding oncoming traffic here...

and if u are afraid of opening... you could try n ask the ppl @ www.customlightz.com if they'll mod it for and how how $... you since they are probably closer to you than kadett

Your Welcome- it's nice to see someone used the post smile.gif

I didn't do the conversion and i've had no problems. No one flashing me because i am blinding them. I've also never had an issue with inspections either and i've had them installed over a year.. eek maybe 2? lol i can't remember... anyway. I've had my inspection done at a few places and never had a problem.

Buy my Celica $2,500 -http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=76562&st=0
no conversion...no problem so far

ive set the lights the right-est as possible
I could not do it because I was very pressed for time. My car was going in for paint and I wanted everything installed and ready. I just made sure the beams were pointed eveningly and not too high. Used my garage door for calibration smile.gif

Every once and awhile I will get flashed, but its rare. So if you are worried about other drivers... I think it is not that apparent to them. As far as cops? I would be very impressed/amazed if a cop could notice.

Plus, I was reluctant to open up my brand new projectors an risk any messups.

x2. Me and Mr. Lew both have HID projectors and no problems yet.

tin foil idea did not work, i tried it, and did it half assed and the tin foil "blinders" or whatever fell off, then culp did it with adhesive, the temps from the bulbs make any kind of adhesive base not work, was contemplating doing a sort of clamp/paperclip style design, but honestly, when you pull up at a gas station and some kid sees them with the cut off and goes "jdm?" and i just nod and watch the look on his face its nice, i havent had any one flash high beams at me since ive had em and ive had hid's in them for a while now and no problems.... now them high beams.... dont leave those on cuz they are BRIGHT with the right kinda bulbs, specially if you like to aim the slightly higher than they should and wider to help more with night driving

if you feel up to it do the conversion

otherwise dont... when i got mine before i even put them in i was nervous about leaving them with the rhd cutoff... but was also nervous about opening them up, risking fogging, cracking, having pry marks on the plastic housing, so i didnt do it and am trying to think of a descent way to block off that lil bit without opening them up

congrats on the purchase thumbsup.gif you wont regret it!!

edit: aim them to the far left to avoid blinding people, aim them to the far right for max visibility while driving, of in the middle for the best of both

i converted to us spec acura tsx projectors... much better than stock!!!
Thanks guys. So far 9 of you are having just about no problems despite not doing the conversion. Sweet!

I was thinking today if you could some of kind of small strip of vinyl overlay on the outside of the glass that would somehow block the portion of light that is above the horizontal cutoff, but not sure if you could have a piece of vinyl that would be transparent on the outside, and a darker color on the inside that could block that light. Sounds stupid or impossible?

I'm not from US... so if my opinion also counts wink.gif read my notes below:

- I have not converted them because I just don't have guts to do that... kindasad.gif. There were too beautiful (I bought brand new ones) to boil biggrin.gif
- I have no problem with drivers (about 6months driving with them so far)
- I'm sure I'll not pass inspection... so I'll swap stock low beams back for that occasion

that's all smile.gif

No more replicas... This is evolution... This isSS-four:)________[Featured Celica of 6gc.net @ 2010]_________
a site makes an overlay... but ruins the clean look of the clear lense on the projectors, i passed inspection no probs, id just leave em go if i were you and enjoy them, unless you get hassled no reason to change em

My question is this, the low and high beam jdm projectors, i notice the only place you really can get them is off of ebay, does anyone know a website that specializes in these lights?

You can also get them from Toyotaworld in Houston for about $850 shipped i think. Ebay is usually overpriced for these. Click this for part numbers.

Good luck-

Heres my Option about all this Martin:

You aint had problems with people flashing to yea - becuse your lights are way too low - i drove your car and i know wink.gif Visibility at night with the RHD lights and LHD lights differs really really much, cuz if you set the RHD lights property - you will be blinding everyone + you are not able to light up side of the road with the RHD lights - so people who MIGHT walk in the dark are in danger too..

So yea, this is just my option...

I had left them as RHD until I got my hid system. I didn't want to be blinding people with hid, but I also wanted to properly light up the road (you cant do this properly with rhd projectors, otherwise you are blinding people) so i read and reread kadett's sticky and finally got around to doing the conversion. There are a few things I wish I had known before I started, but if I had to, I would do it again. Its not that hard.

I am (for the most part) happy with the conversion, and I would recommend it for those with hid.
Pardon my ignorance. What is LHD & RHD refering to?
Left Hand Drive
Right Hand Drive

You know how to program remotes but you might need to learn alittle about cars.
Just kidding
