Hey guys this morning I was going to work I took the highway then exited off and came to a stop then noticed the passenger rear wheel area was smoking !? It looked like I did a burnout !! But I know our cars aren't RWD, their wasn't a good spot to pull over and I was running late to work so after work I came home and took the wheel off inspected everything looked normal even had a friend come check it out everything was normal. But I noticed it had that burnt rubber smell you guys know what I'm talking about.....any clue what that was ?? And I was going maybe 60mph on the highway. Also when I took the lug nuts off it burnt my hand @#$% !!!!!

has your car been braking funny lately or making noises?

it can either of two things.

1) rear bearing is dead. So its dragging causing the heat.
2) brake caliper frozen and rubbing against the disk the entire time..


have you tried to spin the wheel by hand, see if it rotates freely?

Nope no weird noises.

You know what the weird thing is....this happened at the same stop yesterday too but I didn't notice any smoke just the smell....though it was someone else but I guess it was me...

check your ebrake cable

probably your caliper pistons are getting stuck. i had the same problem before on my driver-side rear. there was smoke coming out of the wheel and it smelt like burning asphalt or something...

Yes !! I think thats the problem today coming from work I felt like rear pass wheel was saggin my car down it did feel like the brakes or caliper locked up on me everytime I come to a stop then once I hit the gas it releases. How did you fix your problem just new calipers ?? I checked my brake pads too they cracked on me, damn autozone lol last me 2 months. But I knew my pads wouldn't last I just bought them because I needed some pads FAST !!

1. New pads
2. New rotors
3. New brake fluid
4. New caliper ??
5. Other misc brake stuff

i'd say try lubricating the inside of the caliper piston.. i would use 'white grease'. it's this aerosol spray with a thin straw on the spray nozzle (kinda like WD40) only it's thicker and would last longer than WD40. basically get the straw under the rubber seal of the piston walls and spray... then repeatedly press the brake pedal to get the caliper out and push it back in with a C-Clamp to get the 'white grease' or WD40 everywhere all around the piston walls..

if that doesn't fix the smoking brake pad problem.. then your calipers are probably ceased..
i'm not sure if i'm right on this one, but does anybody have anything better to suggest?
