non toyota engine swap - 6G Celicas Forums

title basicly says it all , what are the major problems with swaping a non toyota engine ?
the one very obvious problem is the instrument cluster.

You will need to custom make a cluster to fit in a cross bread engine swap.

let say you take a honda engine, you will need to either 1) figure out how to fit the honda ECU to the celica gauge cluster. or 2) modify the honda gauge cluster to fit the celica dash. This just adds to the work.

another problem is to get the accessories to work. With toyota family engines, you can sometimes mat the celica powersteering lines to the swap powersteering pump. Same idea applies to the AC system to.

Another problem you might encounter is the direction of the engine. example again would be a honda engine has the cam gears on the driver side. While the toyota celica has its cam gears on the passager side. This might not seem like a problem to you now. But when it comes down to making a custom pull the direction the engine spins might be a problem.

you would need to make custom axels, and engine mounts.

list goes on. But in general, the celica body is just a frame. What engine you want to put in doesn't really matter.
