Turbo Lag - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #49811 18 posts Started by pokemeintheeye
What rpm does your CT26 hit full boost? My boost gauge reads 11 psi at full boost but I don't hit full boost till 3000 rpm. Is it just me or is my CT26 not spooling up quick enough?

EDIT: Well, sounds like all is normal with the turbo. Thanks for the input guys.

Might be your turbo.

But it could be alot of other things too.

Inefficient IC piping
Dirty air filter

Your car is also lighter than a AWD, so it takes a extra bit to spool.
sounds normal to me.

lag 3k? what? that does sound pretty normal.
wait what gear are you in?

Really? Is that normal? I've read in some other forums and they were talking about their turbo hitting full boost at around 2500 rpm and lower. I guess 3000 rpm isn't so bad. But my cousin test drove a swap a few months back and he also says that one hit full boost a lot earlier than mine.

The engine is pretty much all stock. Stock top mount intercooler. Looks to be a jdm 2nd gen and I was told it was from an MR2. To me, my car seems kind of slow. Not quite as fast as what I thought a swap would feel like. Its quick, but I wouldn't say fast.

Don't really have much complaints. I just thought the turbo has a little too much lag. Sounds normal to some of you guys though huh?

if it came with the top mount ic, its not from a mr2.
a good DP and exhaust, getting rid of the interwarmer(top mount intercooler) a good straight intake, will all make the car feel much more responsive.
a swap @ 7-8psi really isnt going to feel THAT fast...that comes after 13psi.. wink.gif

Sounds normal....btw do you have Turbo Boost Controller?
it does sound normal. Mine hits full about at about 2800.
could be worse, i dont see full boost till 5200, lol...
hehe, and i thought 4.5k was bad.

lol, while u're here, can you feel ANY flow coming out of your dump tube while the car is idling?

the car is not abnormally loud or anything, but i have a feeling my valve seat isn't sealing properly.

if you have the air to air top mount, then its pretty much like having no intercooler at all. the car wont be fast. get a fmic, boost controler, downpipe and exhaust. then the car will come alive.

the lag you feel is probably because the ecu is pulling timing on you because you have no intercooler.

if your talking about an external wastegate dump tube, no, you shouldnt have anything coming out at idle, the wastegate should be closed 100% at that time.

yeah ^ did you use the valve seating ring? if its wastegate directly to manifold with no spacer ring that seals the valve then your leaking boost.

nah, i got the seat in there, i just dont think it's working properly. . .
i can feel the slightest flow of air, and i am pretty sure it's in the dump tube, and not from the fans. . .
the v-band flange that came on the manifold was a bit thicker than the one supplied with the tial wastegate, so i'm thinking maybe the seat/set-down area was not right either, that thing is such a pita to put on....errr tongue.gif (bottom mount + thick manifold flange = ...teh such)

Nah. No boost controller yet. I just bought a BOV. Gonna get that installed then I gotta get a new exhaust system. I've read around other forums that says a jdm mr2 has a little more aggressive ecu. People have said using a jdm mr2 ecu often raises the stock boost. Don't take my word for it. Thats just what I've read.

It looks like they modified the intercooler to fit (not that there would be much to modify). The rubber piece from the throttle body looks like a ghetto fit. Same with the rubber fitting from the turbo to the intercooler. Plus, not all the tmic pieces are there. The engine could've been an mr2. Either or, its still a 3sgte.
