how to install spark plugs - 6G Celicas Forums

i just ordered a set of accel wires with bosch platnium spark plugs, i have never replaced these before, so im not really sure what im doing. any help would be appreciated, thank you.
all you do is take the old wires out. try to do this one at a time and match the corresponding accell wire with the stock one so you know what wire goes to what cylinder. to take the spark plug out first remove the plug wire. use a 5/8 socket(preferabely a spark plug one with the rubber in the bottom so you don't break the plug), an extension bar and a ratchet and losen the plug and pull it out. when you put the new one in do the opposite, obviously, but do not tighten too much. it's easy as that. e-mail me if you have any q's

remember to ask the person whom you bought the spark plugs from about the spark plug gap. I dont know hwo to explain this, but just ask them about the spark gap and tell him to instruct you on how to make that gap.
you dont have to worry about the gap. The bosch plugs come pre gapped for the car.
almost every spark plug comes pre gapped!

but isn't it also true that there are specific sizes of gaps for the best performance outcomes? even if it's a tiny little bit, it still more than nothing >smile.gif>
You can buy a little guage to measure the spark plug gap. It looks like a big coin. The edge of it goes from thick to thin, and it has the gap size marked on the face of it. You use that to gap your spark plugs. The correct gap can be found in a repair manual.
just go to autozone, kragens, napa, whatever and tell em what car you got... they go get the correct gaped plugs and you screw em in... thats all...

If you do mess with the gap, be VERY careful, they should come pre-gapped,,, I would also recommend a bit of anti-sieze compound on the threads of the new plugs, and change them with the motor cold, they should also be torqued with a torque wrench, do NOT overtighten them. Also study how the wires clip into the dist. cap b4 removing them, they can be tricky til you figure out just how to push to release the retaining clip. other than that, its no problem.
I take you don't have a shop manual, get one asap. It'll give you instructions for most everything.
make sure you use a torque wrench when putting them in. they have to have the right amount of torque on them (check your manual) i believe that it is 13 ft. lb's, at least it was for my 97 st. also be sure not to cross thread the plugs, that will leave you in a big mess. i think the gap is .032", check to make sure.
the gap is .044, i installed the plugs and wires, no problems, except when i just installed the plugs and no wires my car was jumping like crazy but the wires fixed that.
