Bit of a mod - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #50574 18 posts Started by vsideboy
Some of you know I got the new car a couple of months ago, but I really wanted to transfer my bodykit from my old car to the new one, along with a little bit of modding. See what ya think.

Old car and bodykit on the left, new car on the right.

Made a fibreglass mould from the new cars bumper scoop, and made a fibreglass copy of the scoop

Bit of chopping, bit of bonding and filling later

bit of paint

and we have an almost finished product

now just needs a good polish to buff the freshly sanded paint back to be shiny again.

94celigts,
nah mate, sorry.
wow, thats sick dude...looks stock...very nice...
Damn, that looks really good. I've been trying to do something similiar but since im no good with fiberglass, i was trying to see if i could find me a piece already made.

Nice work, wish I had your skills. Could you provide more of a step-by-step as to what is involved, tricks and tips you used and so on? I don't think I'll be attempting that any time soon but perhaps there is something I could take away?

cheers guys, i'll have a think about the step by steps of how to succeed with fibreglass.

what would be preferable? Just a basic this is how to do a basic bit of glassing or this is exactly how I made it?
good work thumbsup.gif end product looks professional. to be honest, im not a fan of the invader front though, id like to see someone do that with a varis arising 2 or combat front bumper.

edit- anybody think they can photoshop a combat/arising 2 front modified to fit a gt4 hood?

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

Something that includes all the products and tools needed, including specific brand names you prefer.
How to take a fiberglass mold of something.
How to use that mold to make a fiberglass part. How to separate one from the other.
How to affix to a plastic or metal panel, how to feather in the edges.
Any other tips and tricks you've learned over the years.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

It's VSIDEBOY's birthday today so he's not about but I do happen to know he is flat out getting his car finished in time for the Italy meet - I'm sure he would help after that though wink.gif
very nice mod

You say you don't understand how we go dumb, but have you ever been where i'm from?-=-] Livin it in tha bay's a lil different [-=-
haha cheers Al,

<hic!> I'm feeling a bit ropey this morning after a few beverages at the local drinking establishment last night <hic!>

I will attempt a how to sometime soon, but I want to include a few more pics and like Al says I am a tad busy at the moment.

I've just taught myself how to do fibreglassing so its not that difficult.

Watch this space!
What is the best filler to use on plastic bumpers? I've heard horror stories about fiberglass and some fillers as they are much less flexible than the plastic so the slightest knock and fracture lines appear where filler meets plastic.

Any recommendations?

I just use EASY filler, Not sure if you can get a truly flexible filler though bud. Fibreglass is probably almost as flexible as plastic (depending upon how thick you make it anyway!)

Filler is crazily sticky though, it will stick almost anything to anything if theres a decent amount of overlap!

Will try the How To Tips in a few weeks.
