Hey guys. I got my S-AFC 2 installed and I know several other people have them as well. I know some of you must have some good settings so lets share the knowledge and see how much we can get out of our respective engines.

Note: as we all know the safc should be tuned by a trained professional for optimum performance, however it doesn't hurt to experiment. so lets share the knowledge and see where it takes us.

Ghostdog, Top thread! it should of been done earlier. Its probably good to list your performance mods because it will make a difference on some figures.

I have a brand new air filter, Genie header, hi flow cat and a stinger exhaust. All 2.25 inchs through. Major bends are mandrel. I run on 98 octane fuel.

I'm in cali right now so I can't give you exactly what my map is but it really looks pretty similar to sikboys. All of my tuning was guesswork using a ****ty o2 sensor but it seems to work ok. Like you all know, it has to be done on the dyno with a wideband to be done correctly. It should be realitively easy to do it in like 45 min and will cost less than $100 if you come prepared.

The stock 7a map does seem to be really rich, so leaning it out gives gains, but be careful and don't go too far. Anything past about -20% and you're asking for trouble. I didn't mess with the low throttle map at all but if I had it to do over I'd probably lean the whole thing out about 20% and see how it looks on the wideband. The idea behind that being fuel economy. Low throttle really won't effect much. The throttle points seem a little weird on sickboys map...the SAFC interpolates between them so to use it to its max effectiveness the points should be farther apart. Mine are 30% and 70%. This basically allows you to make a crude 3d map based on throttle position, and rpm, instead of just rpm (like sikboys map).

All that being said...GO TO THE DYNO!! Its worthwhile for the power you get out of it and what you'll learn. Make sure they have a wideband o2 sensor, sometimes they charge a little more for this but its worth it. Just as an example...we were tuning the World-Challenge cars the other day and had an exhaust leak where the header collector and exhaust meet. The o2 sensor was located downstream of this point and the leak was pulling fresh air in and throwing the sensor off. We completely mapped the car and were really disappointed with the results. We went back the next day after discovering the problem and made 10 more hp with a correct map in the car. The difference in the 2 maps wasn't very big.

Oh and if you're really creative and ambitious, play with intake length while you're there. We've found a LOT of power in having the correct tuned length intake.

thanks for the info, im working on getting dyno tunning time at this shop a few miles away from my house.

he charges $50 to get you your wheel hp and torque. im sure if i talk to him, i can get about an hour for $150.

my settings now are all at about -5% across the rpm range. i just went out and drove with different settings, when i have things richer, it really bogged down. i would have changed more but i wanted to see what other people are doing.

on a side note, i get my jgs manifold back on Wed. from the guy who is welding it for me, and thrusday, i start putting all the turbo stuff on, w00t.

btw i will be putting all the settings back to stock and start over.

do you guys know if the blue wire mod works on the safc2?

its the mod where you take one of the 3 extra wires from the safc and attach it to the 02 sensor to get a voltage reading from it

I Heard its not worth it. I read up on it on the mr2 boards and basically they said that its not worthwhile, if you hook it up tell us how it goes but I have left it unhooked.

Spedtoe, I dont have much knowledge on the SAFC and I just gave it to the guy to tune but I dont know if he did a good job or if his settings are right. Do you think that its safe for me to change my throttle points similar to yours (30,70). or will that change everything with the current settings.

Hey John, thanks for the post. I know your away from your car but I'd still like to see your settings when you get the chance. As for me, I'm looking for a dyno with knowledgable staff at the moment. Seems most of the guys around here are used to the domestics or emissions related stuff and have no experience with air/fuel ratios.

Find a shop that does fuel injected road race cars. Where are you located? I might be able to offer suggestions.

Changing the throttle point will drastically effect the overall map. I'd have to look at the numbers more closely before I could say yes or no.
