any problems with 2.5" full exhaust - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #51135 27 posts Started by Redline08
So my next project for the celi is to do full exhaust. The only headers i could find that fit my budget are all 2.5" o/d.

So i was thinking to avoid reversion i would just do a 2.5" catback as well, that arose questions.

Many people on this site say 2.5" is too big for the st. But why? does it pop or sound bad? Hurt performace?

What are the pros/cons of a 2.5" full exhaust?

Thanks! biggrin.gif
Most say for N/A you want to keep 2.25 however 2.5 will be fine. Majority use 2.5 for turbo 7a/5s.

With larger exhaust on N/A you lose some back pressure to help your low end power. With a gas saving 7a I doubt you will notice.

I didn't notice anything on my 5S with the 2.5 inch exhaust. I just like the sound better that a 2.25 inch. Its got a deeper tone to it that sounds really nice. If you want a sound clip let me know. Grant it you have an ST but it might be able to give you an idea.
here ya go. link

2.5 inch cat back with magnaflow muffler and high flow cat
im doing a half exhaust of 2.5" on the coupe next week and i got a 2.5" on my GTS and it sounds good. I still have backpressure too, but i donno how much of a difference its gonna make on a 1.8L
I have 2.5" on the Yelli Celi's 1.6L and it sounds great. I have a sound clip posted in the multimedia section somewhere..

The only difference is that the 20V has NO low end torque, so I guess I have nothing to miss in that department.

Sorry, not multimedia, but Exterior. Here is a link. Scroll down a little bit to find two movies. First one is a cold-ish start-up and the other is my terrible camera skills while driving laugh.gif

Pandelica 2.0 in progress.
xs94st dude thats the exacttttt sound i was looking for, what are the specs on that setup? stock headers and cat? and what kind of muffler is that? Thankyou so much!!
^^ Hey bro you really can't go wrong with a Magnaflow oval muffler. I went with an Apexi N1 style before and it was ok but just a little off by my standards lol. I went with the Magnaflow and it sounds perfect.

yea magnaflow is a good choice but a little over my budget atm, magnaflow is nice because it doesnt let everyone know your redlining at 30mph, and it doesnt catch the hate that civics with pissed off weedwacker mufflers get.
to tell u the truth, i have no idea what muffler it is cuz i bought it at a lil performance place 3 years ago n put it on my mk3 supra. its an apexi n1 style muffler, just huge. the clip doesnt really do justice cuz i didnt step on the accel all the way.

it is stock headers that i got bored out. cat is there unfortunately frown.gif n i have a simple short ram intake set up. i'll try to do a vid of me driving in the car cuz its extremely loud. its deep tho, not ricey n REEE REEEEE like those bootleg civic exhausts lol

Pandelica 2.0 in progress.
however, i would recommend a muffler that has some sort of dyno'd guaranteed performance. i have never put my car ona dyno so i duno exactly how my exhaust helps. i feel good pull in low end n high end as well tho

Pandelica 2.0 in progress.
apexi n1 style? darn i wish you could get more info, theres nothing on the side or ne thing? its cool if you cant find it out, is it 2.5" inlet and straight through?

I think that as long as a muffler is a straight through design then there will be like a 1hp gain, exhaust doesnt really give that much hp lol
dont go to big or youll hurt performance im running straight pipe from the turbo back ...... i only have 2.25 and im boostn and my car sounds more like a mix between an srt4 and an sti i loooove it i hate ricey sounds lol ( f*n hondas)

BOOST GETS YOU LAID!!!!
do u think 2.5" is gonna hurt performance though?
for an n/a 1.8 i would think so and your gona have a harder time gettn someone to bend the pipe up over your rear axle
o and do NOT do crush bending only work with someone thats going to use a mandrale(spelling?) bender

crush bends arent bad are they? maybe gases would flow a little worse, but it wont even matter on a 85hp engine...
youd be suprised plus mandral bent is alot better functional and looks alot better

BOOST GETS YOU LAID!!!!
yea i know, but if the price is alot different ill go crush over mandel, id like mandel tho...
