MY bodywork thread - 6G Celicas Forums

when I bought this car away back it had been repainted by the previous owner and it was a hack job. The color was custom so it was difficult for me to match for the skirts/extensions and the guy didn't really feel like sanding the car before painting it so there were a lot of spots where the paint was just chipping right off the car kindasad.gif

so let's start with the pics

getting it sanded

I stripped everything off the car (spoiler, bumper, mirrors, moldings) and brought it over to a friend's new house. A guy who sands car at a Maaco came to do some sanding and fix a couple small dings. Thanks Hector

I still need to get it wet sanded and buffed for a glass like finish.

and who painted it ?

a crazy greenhorn named >>presure2>> painted my car.

He laid the paint and clear down smooth and he did an impressive job. There is no one else I would feel comfortable with painting my car, I am still in shock every time I walk outside and see it.

Thank you Hector, and thank you Manny (presure2)

looking good bats. I like the color choice a lot.
and nice job manny on the paint work.

although (no disrespect to your friend)
Maaco guys (at least in my area) are known to be very very poor at prep work. So i just find that point ironic.

thats why all the prep work was done at my house dan.
the main reason you see crap prep work come out of maaco, is they push to TOTALLY sand a car, in ONE HOUR.

D, the car looks amazing.

lol, thanks guys.
dustin, hector, and myself worked hard to prep the car well to give me a good base to lay the paint onto.
i cant believe you guys cant find a good body/paint man in CALIFORNIA of all places.
the best advice i can give anyone looking for paint work, is to go to as many shops as you can, and look at the work that is coming out of the booth.
you want to see a car that hasnt be detailed, or buffed or anything.
if they try and shy you away from wanting to look around the shop, move on.
