cutting crashbar - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #51201 10 posts Started by lubu
Does anyone have a picture of their crash bar cut down by a sawzall. Im fittting a c-one bumper and apparently it doesnt fit coz the crashbar is in the way..just how much you need to cut down the bar?

edit: I thinking of fitting the proper crashbar for safety sake so i went to toyotaworld.com and typed in the frame bracklet no#, but they didnt work.

you'll have to call in and ask for those frame bracket pieces... it won't work on their website.

also, if you decide to cut the crashbar, it won't sit flush with the bumper absorber and will have about a 1" gap.

but if you decide to cut it anyway, here are the pics:

i first thought that this was simply ALL BOLT ON but really wasn't. i mean, it was but it wouldn't fit and line up correctly... so a couple of things (for you future gt-four convertors) that needed modifications were:

1. cutting the st205 reinforcement bumper
2. the gap to fill between the bumper and hood

the reinforcement bumper was not a direct bolt-on job... the front frame rails where the re-bar bolts on to is different on the gt4's.

this is how it appears when you have it against the frame rails...

as you can see, the bottom is far too forward for the upper threading to fit through...

this is how it looks after being cut (using an impact metal sheet cutter):

and here it is when bolted on

another thing which i totally missed is when you have the bumper installed, the bar sits slightly higher than it should be. right now, it doesn't fit in the groove on the bumper absorber. that may be because my car was in a previous front end accident and things aren't lining up 100% perfect.

finished gt4 conversion

You crash bar is divided in 3 "cells". Take a grinder with a cutting disc and get rid of the third "cell"(the one on the bottom). It will give you enough place to put the bumper over it and still 2/3 of the crash bar.

thanks..thats what i thought too..but when i test fit the c-one bumper i took a quick look and it looks like i need to cut up to half. I'll start with 1/3 first...

btw anyone knows where i can get a rhd gt4 latch please help..

edit..would the foam absober fit in the c-one bumper?

the crash bar i used is from a gt-four, the one you have is for the st202/st204s... sorry, i forgot to note that.

and i'm pretty sure the gt-four bumper absorber will fit the gt-four c-one bumper.

why do you need to cut it, isnt the gt4 crashbar is a perfect fit to the gt4 bumper?

it needs to be cut if you're going to fit it on the st202/st204 frame brackets...
