geared low for good acceleration, bad for fuel mileage. you could trade some of the acceleration for better fuel mileage by possibly using a 5sfe camry transmission.

Its our gearing. We have low powered cars, so they want the rpms to rev up quicker. Giving us more power in the begining but putting you at 4k for 80 mph.
Get longer gears to fix it, but you will have a slower acceleration in the beginning.

you can look up which trans has what kind of gearing and then calculate what engine speed you'll cruise at.

omg i know that **** isss sooo gay
i hate going past 4rpm just for 80
when in my ACura MDX i am still at 2.5rpm for 80
fuk that ****
Get a 3S-GE tranny. It has a bigger Final Drive. 75mph is like 3200 rpm or so.

JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

i always wanted to know that.....if you do a 3s-gte swap thats the trans that you get correct?....i could defentally deal with that and i was always curious if a 3s swap still had the low gear box...because whats the point of all that power and only being able to go up to like 90? i hate the fact they rev so high at such little speed

actually for an ST a swap with a corolla gear box would bring down the revs some. at 85 im turing about 3500 rpm.

haha, i thought i said that in my post but i guess i forgot. AT, but the MT ends up with nearly the same engine speeds iirc.

is it bad to be driving at 80 for a long time then????
usually 2.5 is ideal but yeh lets say ur goin for a 2 hour drive
should u drive down to 70 or just cruise at 80 of 4000-45000mph?

I don't really know the answer to that question, but I can say that I get much much better gas milage when I cruise at 65 mph on the freeway as opposed to 80 mph.

yeah me too, however is better gas mileage worth the 20 minutes longer it'll take to get there?
hmm!

at 90? thats crazzzzzzy.

My first car was a CRX HF. The RPMs never went above three in that thing. After it
got totalled, I got a Del Sol SI and I constantly thought I was gonna blow the engine
in it for the first month 'cuz the RPMs ran so high. I totally wasn't used to it. By the time
I got the Celica, I was used to super-high RPMs.

When I first got the Celica GT, I took various road trips in it (about 5 hours each way)..and
I cruised at about 85-90 with no problems. I did this trip about 20 times and never had
an incident. I just always checked my fluids before I hopped in the car and hit the freeway.

I think the trade-off is worth it. I like having the power. You can hit the gas at 80 and get
moving if you need to.
