So ive been a dell girl for 5 years but decided that I would try out a Mac Book so I just got umm the (looks for receipt)

MacBook 13/2.16/2x1gb/160/sd black lol so whatever that means.


I dont know much about computers so what can I expect? id like to get more organized with my music and photos so anyone got any tips for me?

My tip is to get virtual PC running on it and set up a version of XP and a version of Linux... Thats one reason why I really want a macbook.

ive had a pc all my life, but then i had to get a mac for school. At first, it takes some getting used to, but after a little bit you will love it. I will never go back to a pc again in my life. If you wanted it for music and pictures, then you made the right choice. so congrats on the purchase and enjoy

Your computer comes with a great OS called Mac OS X. This is way better than Windows XP or Vista for non-office stuff like music and photos.

It should also come with a suite of applications called iLife 08. If you find that you have iLife 06 instead, go here and pay the $9.99 upgrade fee: http://www.apple.com/ilife/uptodate/

iLife is an amazing way to store, sort and retrieve your pictures and music. You can even write your own music, create CD photo albums, films and DVDs with iLife. You can also create your own website and share your creations with friends. http://www.apple.com/ilife/

If you sometimes use your computer for work, check out the 30 day trial version of iWork supplied with your computer. It has a presentation program (a bit like Powerpoint but easier to use and more professional), a desktop publishing / word processor program (a bit like Word but easier to use and more professional) and a spreadsheet program (a bit like Excel but easier to use and more professional). As you can probably tell by now, I am a bit biased about Mac OS X software and think it is just great.

And now to prove that I really am a geek:

2.16 - its fast
2x1gb - it has masses of memory so you can have loads of stuff open at the same time, or edit really hi-res pictures, or edit HD quality film, etc
160 - it has a huge hard disk so plenty of spece for those tunes, photos, videos and downloads
sd - you can create your own DVDs.

Really there are only two questions remaining: did you go for the pretty white one or the geeky/gangster black one? I'm thinking you went for the black one; And did you opt for the sensible-and-safe antiglare matt screen or the form-over-function, make-a-statement glossy screen. I recon you went for the glossy one, didn't you?

Edit: Oh, you said it was black!

Oooor, if you reaaaaaally want to run Windows get boot camp. It'll give you the possibility to run XP in native mode (it's an intel processor, remember?). Not run an OS through a soft which is running on another OS.

virtual PC is a very stable way to run Windows... I mean, look at your run-of-the-mill dummy terminals.

3. More games are coming out all the time now new Macs have Intel chips - it is now trivial for games developers to write games that work on both platforms.

One thing you'll notice is that everything is seeminglessly tied together. Say,

- AIM information in "Address Book" will show the first and last name in iChat instead of the ugly screen names.
- Birthdays entered in "Address Book" can also show up as a "reminder" in iCal.
- Play around with F9, F10, F11, F12.
- Setup "Hot Corners" in System Preferences so you can ask your mac to do something when your mouse hits the certain corner of the screen... (Can be annoying sometimes if corner is accidentally hit)
- Drag and drops are never been easier in Mac, if you drag a file over a folder, and hold it over the folder for a tag, it will open the folder automatically for you to drop into it, or its sub-folders.
- You can also drag and drop while operating Expose features
- Use iPhoto, you'll love how it help you organize your photos
- Use iCal, you can even sync caldendar data to your cell phone (cerntain ones)
- Dashboard (F12) or in your case it might be (FN + F12), is very handy and useful... exactly why MS implemented it in Vista.
