my custom front lip concept - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #52082 17 posts Started by HaRv3sTeR
Ok..the deal: I want a front lip but i cant find one that really suits me. I want something clean and subtle that flush the front of the car with my OEM skirts but at the same time, i want something that is not too much.

The closest thing i found (in term of lip height) are the euro-spec front splitters:

..but still im not 100% into it and i want a "FULL" lip so my idea is to mod them by filling the middle. I made some photoshops to see what it might look like and im stunt with the results (ignore my poor skills):

im sure that any shop can do this easily....so i think my idea is realistic

now i have 2 questions:

1-I can have the OEM poly-rubber splitters or the replica fiberlgass one....which one do you think would be the easier to do this mod?

2-I plan later on to get a gt4 front bumper and hood....will my "custom" lip fill correctly the gt4 bumper? ( i know the splitters fit both...but maybe the shape/lenght/width of the gt4 bumper is different and might screw up the "full lip fitment)?

what do you guys think?

PS: hope the members which i use their car pic wont mind biggrin.gif

i think it would look pretty cool. I would say go with the fiberglass replicas to make the lip, jut because its easier to bind fiberglass with fiberglass. ill cut down on the hassel. Why dont u just go with a european style full front lip though??

or is that 2 big for you? I would say if you got one of thouse lips, and just shaved it down it would make your job alot easier.
haha I know that someone was gonna bring this up...and no i dont like that lip at all....too big and not my taste at all

i also thing that chopping off this lip is as much work that my idea..and also this lip is 1. rare and 2. not as cheap than the splitters. I will also create a gap between the bumper and the lip and i dont like that.

thx for your input anyway wink.gif

Ooh, nice!

I'd suggest trying a slightly modified design which comes out more vertical and sweeps around the front in more of an arc like the nose itself does and like the 7th gen full splitter does. I couldn't find an appropriate 7th gen pic, but this is similar to what I am thinking:

As to your questions:

1. Go fiberglass as you or the bodyshop will almost certainly be using fiberglass to do the mod itself. Ideally you want it unpainted and unprimed and a discount to reflect the time and materials saving.

2. Wait until you get the bumper. The shape of the bumper is subtly different at a number of places that will make moving your lip from one to the other problematic.

not a bad idea....but i want something more subtle and also...ssiii spliters wont fit my prefacelifted bumper or my future gt4 bumper
i've seen ss-iii front splitters on a gt4 bumper... it didn't look too bad actually... it didn't look like he had to do any modifications to get it to fit either...

HaRv3sTeR, I have the same problem, I'll be finally owner of a Celica in these days and I want a different front but I'm not happy of that ones I've seen till now.
However I don't think to reach best result with a lip, instead with an entire bumper....
But this bring cost higher..
For example I have the idea to start from a C-ONE bumper (and to start from the real C-ONE, and not replicas, for me in Italy is very expensive) and simplify it (I don't like too many holes in the bumper, I think they aren't .. how to say...modern).
My idea is this one (I hope it can help you or suggest something),
they are not perfect photoshopped but I think they communicate the idea:

WOW! That looks really good. it would be a ton of work though. i love that look! if i didn't have the JDM magic lip i would do that. Nice design. thumbsup.gif

Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
Thanks, I think only the last two steps presents some difficult
nice...but yes that involve lot of work, and i want something easy.

I really like C-one, specially the GT4 lip (not bumper).

But i finally realized that i want something even more subtle...it changes the front of the car shape too much (to me)

the dilema is that i would really want to keep the front of my car as it is (i prefer no lip at all than putting any kind of aftermarket bumper), but it's just the skirts that dont flush that annoys me a bit...that's why i want something not too noticeable...hope you guys understands biggrin.gif

If you only want a lip under the bumper and for the entire lenght you could try to find some STOCK underbumper lip even of other cars, they are usually in black ABS (afte you can always repaint it) and so more resistant then fiberglass kit.
The ABS in more elastic and that thing could permit you to adapte it (if too big or too long you coulc cut it in some geometric point for example in the middle). You must make a reasearch of car with similar dimensions of that ones of 6th gen celica.

thx for the tip...

for you lip plans, i suggest you to remove the "squary" part at each ends of the lip (what you stretched, remove it completely), i think it would flow better with the car's lines
