Code 42, what does this mean? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #52130 7 posts Started by GotToyota
Today for kicks, I checked my diagnostic codes, and the only one I pulled was Code 42. I did some research and it indicates something about the speed sensor signal. What could this mean?

does your speedo work?
it could be the wire to the ecu corroded or shorted

Yep, speedo works just fine, doesn't stutter or anything.

so the signal IS there, but isn't getting to the ECU, i think. so check your ecu plugs.. i belive its the plug closest to the engine bay.. just unplug htem all, then plug them back in. if that doesn't help, start looking for something wrong with the speed sensor wire..

To the best of my knowledge, the speed sensor is actually what is also known as the wheel speed sensor, which controls the ABS. Do your brakes behave erratically, or is your ABS light on? If your brakes pulsate at lower speeds or grind and pulsate simultaneously, combined with that code, it could be your ABS failing.
