Possible hood for 3sgte - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #5261 12 posts Started by ScoobyDooCruiser
Hey,
I know the 3sgte engine usually is put in a car that has the gt-4 hood and bumper cause it needs the increased airflow or whatever. I was thinking of getting the VIS carbon fiber hood that charlie97 is getting set up for us. If I put a vent in the front stock bumper, and cut a couple more holes in the carbon fiber hood, is there any way this could go with the 3sgte engine. This would save a decent amount of the $$$ that doing the conversion would cost. Any ideas?

if you get the st185 i believe it fits, st205 wont fit cause the bulge in the hood makes the clearence for the intercooler. If you move the intercooler imediatly then there would be no problem even with your current hood.
Does it even need the extra air vents then? I've heard some people say it needs the cooling, but it would look so much more of a sleeper without the hood vents.

i think the answer your looking for is... it depends. if your going to do a 2nd gen 3sgte, then i believe you will have no problems with the stock hood. if you get a 3rd gen 3sgte, a stock hood will not close all the way, but if you take off the top mount intercooler and put on a front mount i think it works just fine. yea dude i think u were a lil confused. its not really about the airflow, although its a plus. the 3rd gen will physically not fit in the engine bay without the gt4 hood. if you take off the top mount intercooler and put on a front mount, i believe it does fit. the airflow ur thinking of is airflow to the intercooler, which would not be solved by the TRD style hood. also its true that vented hoods will cool down the engine a bit, even more if its carbon fiber( oem style CF hoods will cool down the engine too) if you want the hood, get the hood. a 2nd gen 3sgte will be no problem, but if you want to go for a 3rd gen, i would get confirmation about the intercooler replacement fixing the problem. im fairly sure im right, but i havent done the swap yet so im not sure. >biggrin.gif>

wait whats going on here? where did the wiggle go???

um...wtf...where is the wiggle...!!!! that was MY smilie...coomer's gonna hear about this...

oh, and about the hood thing...stock will be fine, and that VIS hood will be fine, but you will need to move the intercooler to the front mouth. otherwise, there will not be enough room. >smile.gif>.

ok I have a question, the gt-4 hood dosnt just have the center IC vent, its has like 4 or 5 other vents, what are these all for?
From what I know, the reason you'll need the GT4 hood is because the 3sgte comes with a top mount intercooler. if you get a front mount intercooler, you should be fine with the VIS hood.

the GT-FOUR hood is not for air induction. so even w/ this hood, and the TMIC from the 2nd gen, the IC would heatsoak. the 3rd gen 3sgte (that comes in the ST-205 GT-FOUR) has a top mount air/water ic. basically, there is a 2nd radiator in the mouth, which cools liquids, which cools the top mount intercooler. all of the vents in the GT-FOUR hood are meant for heat dispersion. so even if you get the GT-FOUR hood and the 2nd gen 3sgte, you will need to move the IC to the front mouth. >smile.gif>.

Without some kind of custom hood scoop you're never going to get enough air though the top mount IC. A FMIC is almost required. As was already mentioned, a water to air IC will work but is much more complex and difficlut to find.
