just wondering what motors will fit in a ST205?
im thinking a stronger block might be the starting point rather than an engine rebuild

Huh!? Not trying to be all "only the 3s will due" but "only the 3s will due".

What brought this on? Just didn't know what dropped your faith in the 3s.

Anyways, since I don't have a st205, I don't know how big the tunnel is starting at the firewall. If it was large enough for the tranny, I would suggest a VQ35 from multiple nissans. If it can fit in a miata then sure to God it should fit in a celica!

a nice t3/t4 and a powerfc would make for a good "motor".

um.. just wondering because ive got no plans to sell me car, at least not in the next 6 or so years (just loose to much money and the gt4 is quite rare which i like) so i want to just do up what i have over time and like the idear of 600-800 hp (doesnt mean thats my goal). I read something ages ago and some one said to get a stronger starting block so im just enquireing into whatd fit- satisfy my curiosity i supose

no. a gtr motor would not fit.
the st185 block is stronger. thats probably what they meant.
also, your HP goal is a bit unrealistic. 3-500 is plenty of power in a car like the celica. if you want more, buy a supra.

Higher hp #'s mean squat if going with awd (my opinion)

There are plenty of vids that prove this (tufys 600bhp vs. 1020 hp supra is the first to come to mind ) But there are other awd platforms with half the hp of their rwd/fwd competitor and they all smoke 'em.

The 3s block is probably your best bet for a good strong starting point for a high hp build. (and it already fits in your gt-4 )

Was your plan to keep the awd format with this build?

Did tuffy beat a 1020hp supra? and it wasnt just because of the 4wd having a better launch?

does tuffy just use normal petrol station pump gas to get 600hp?

whats considered a safe distance to bore the 3rd gen 3sgte piston shafts by?

He seems to be the one you need to pm and ask some questions about all this.

I would suggest more of a stroker kit than to bore the 3s. (my opinion though)

Stronger 3sgte blocks are either Caldina blocks which as strengthened around the earlier blocks weak points, TTE blocks which are very few and far between as well as costing a small fortune, ST165 blocks are strong and cheap but mat require somework to get the water ways to match. You could use cylinder liners which would help reduce cost a bit (over buying a TTE block etc)

I dont know how feasable this would be to do on a normal block, but the TTE blocks had longer head bolts, which would mean drilling further down into the block and threading the holes further into the block, but I dont know if this would interfear with the water/oil ways.

There is a V6 available from a Lexus I think that will, with a bit of adapting, bolt onto the existing 4wd system of the GT4. You could also try an engine from a Toyota Rav 4, I believe they used a watered down version of the 3sge engine which might have had the bugs worked out of it.

are all the 4th gen 3sgte's the same? there isnt a year from which are better

how much better are the 4th gens than the 3rd gens?

the 5s block is stronger than the 3s block. if you want big hp, build a 2.2 stroker 5sgte with the 5s block/crank

what does the 5sgte come in? is it a straight bolt in? anyone on here done it before?
you know any decent info sites on the 5sgte?

$4500 would pretty much be my limit for a motor so ill have to do some research and see what things are like

whats a stroker? from what ive read above you can get both 2L and 2.2L stroker??

with stroker kit you can have longer stroke and that makes your engine bigger using same block. you should have new crank + pistons.
i have read so much about toyota blocks, i would still go with 3s block since thay have better oil and water lines. for me best is 4th gen 3sgte block.

thanks guys. i might look into the 4th gen 3sgte and see what the costs are.. if its too dear ill just build on the original motor

yeah, stick with the 3s, the 5s-gte wouldn't accept the awd system unless you made some sort of adapter, the cost would be more than your buget...
