After reading posts in the forum and browsing around websites for a while I’ve decided to start building my 5SFTE kit…I wanted to list out everything I’m planning on for recommendations from you guys. My goal is initially ~200whp but I’d like to eventually reach 250whp (I’m gonna agree with jgreening here and say the vert won’t like much more…)

3SGTE Oil pan
Custom FMIC from 97Celica
315cc 7MGE injectors
Turbo – T3/T04B V trim, water-cooled from blaastperformance.com
Exhaust manifold/downpipe – Product #aaaa10218 from ssautochrome.com
Custom oil and coolant lines for turbo (need major help here…)
Walbro 255 lph high pressure fuel pump
Greddy Emanage Ultimate (not sure this is my best option but seems most versatile…)
3SGTE 2bar MAP Sensor (anyone have one?)
Boost controller (probably manual, but electronic if I can find a deal)
Greddy universal BOV (haven’t decided on a model…what should I look for?)
Magnaflow race muffler and high-flow cat
A-pillar gauge pod w/ boost, oil pressure and EGT

I’m currently living away from home but I’m planning to start the build when I move back home in December. I’ve got plenty of time to shop around for bargains and such so hopefully I can do everything for $2500 or so…low I know, but I’m gonna try! Let me know what you guys think.

New Injectors!

You want the 460 rx7 injectors and Id recomend sending them to witchhunter.com for a cleaning. The 315's are from the old school settup and Manny proved them to be to small.

they were cheap so I jumped on it, figured if I needed bigger I could sell them pretty easily

ditch the SSautocrap manifold. its 100% junk. it WILL crack.
the downpipes are ok at best, some last (as long as you use the support bracket) some dont.
use a stock alltrac or mr2 exhaust manifold.

interesting turbo selection, what made you pick that particular turbo?

shannon swore hers wasnt either...till i pulled teh turbo and showed her the nice big crack starting on the underside, at the weld.

i'll just have it rewelded when it cracks and have the rest of the welds reinforced

the welds aren't the only problem. its super thin stainless, trying to hold up a heavy ass turbo, that has no other means of support. its going to crack. period.

there may be an oil kit available shortly that would eliminate the need for a 3sgte oil pan and other things and will simplify the process alot.

That turbo pick wasn't very well educated...it's not going to suit my needs, the T04 compressor wheel is too large...but I'm looking more at pricing right now than anything...

so i'm coming to the conclusion i might want to make some mods to prepare for a turbo setup...funds are tight ya know

in december i'm going to do a thorough inspection/repair...i know i have to replace the rear main seal, rebuild/replace brake calipers, probably do axle seals while i'm at it...

what kind of mods should i do that would be good for a turbo setup? everyone says new clutch, reckon i'd do a lightweight flywheel at the sametime, should i do different brakes? any other mods i could do before the turbo? suspension/handling might be nice...

and any recommended clutch kits, brake kits, suspension kits? been reading through and learning a lot in general, just trying to decide when to do what...

you could do a metal head gasket and head studs. but it's not really necessary. just make sure you have a good aftermarket clutch. Brakes and suspension aren't needed, but they sure don't hurt. Unless you have tons of money though, the most you can do for your brakes is some high performance pads, stainless lines, and maybe cross drilled and slotted rotors if you're into that kind of thing.

slowly working my way toward putting the t in 5sfte!

virtually rebuilt the engine (everything but new crank and pistons...journals are all ok and compression is great...) and i got my spec stage 2 clutch tonight!

lots of pics will be coming once it's all together...either tomorrow late or next weekend since i start back to classes wednesday

My opinion on this has changed over time. I was running about 270whp before I sold my car with no noticable ill-effects due to chassis ridgity. Nevertheless, that doesn't address the traction issue. I still believe that going for much over 250whp in our cars has limited value due to poor traction (and torque steer w/o a LSD) from the FF configuration.
