So I ordered my low beam projectors and they should be here shortly.

Now here's my deal. How hard is it to wire up in the USDM celicas? Is it just a matter of getting the proper sockets (plugs) for the bulb cutting the stock ones and just rewiring the new ones in, or is there more chaos? Do the projectors screw right in?


Also. I'm planning on getting a nice HID kit (I get them rather cheap $350 US or so..) for the low beams. What do you guys recommend? Would it look good in the projectors? Is it too hot for the projectors?

Supposedly, HIDs are illegal this month, unless they're stock.

he's a canadian though. he can get away with it.

Illegal this month? Haven't they always been illegal if they're not stock?

Anyways, I think HID lights in your projectors would look awesome, and I seriously doubt that a cop would give you a ticket for them. As far as wiring goes, I'd imagine that you'd have to cut off the 9006 socket and wire up a new one. John has done it along with a few other people, so he can help you out more than I can. >>

Yeah.. what's up with this? I heard HIDs were illegal everywhere in the states (starting this month of course)

If they're not OE, they gotta go! Whack. I can imagine there are a lot of shoddy kits out there though. Has anyone on the board installed HIDs? Probably looks stellar in a Celica..

the projectors are friggin easy to install

i got the plugs from a ST205 clip and all it really is is just cut, solder, and tape or shrinkwrap or coating or w/e

why do only 3 of your headlights work?



edit: btw. i think that the projectors look good enough stock. just get some H4 white bulbs and you will be set.
there is a company that makes really good bulbs but i cant remember what they are called. its in the new superstreet with the silver silvia.

Thanks for the info guys.. and well the story of stories.. why my three lights work!

One day both my highbeams died out, so i replaced them both, and for some odd reason, when I fired up the lights only one of the two highs came on. I changed the bulb, thinking it was defective. Same result. This was also the same time, my day time running lights (the law here in Canada, just uses the high beams at a lower wattage) died out as well!

So for months, I just drove around like that. So one night, I was with my GF and we pulled into a hydro line field and started to make out - with the car running. Normally with the lights set to off, the daytime running lights would come to life (the highbeams would come on.. but at lower power.. ) but they DRL were dead so no issues.

Anyway, it was pitch black and all of a sudden, she's like LIGHTS, NO it's the cops! SO I jump up, and sure enough my daylight running lights came on by them selves, and the one high beam that was dead was on. I quickly jumped of her, turned the high beams on... and they worked (after running out of the car to check it out... ohh yeah the gf was not ammused)

But yeah, it stayed like this for a while and then went back to dead. I still have no idea what the hell happend. I'm thinking one of the relays is gone.. but the cost from Toyota is.. $$$

soo if anyone has anysort of clue what might be wrong.. do let me know. I know it's not the bulb. and not the wires.

If u want just Bulbs. You have to get Nokya Purples. My cousin got them for his LandCruiser the look straight HID. My cousin bought the ones off of ebay highs and lows 34.99 they came within a 4-5 days and the guy has tons of them.

or it could be that the thing that holds the bulbs could be dirty and i might need some cleaning

for the projectors, just go to an auto store w/ the light socket you'll get...and find you a 3prong adaptor...i got mine from Honda...but you'll just pull that 3rd wire you don't need out, and just cut off the stock harness, and wire up the new harness. the new thing tho, is that the JDM projectors have the side accent light...what i did for mine, was take the stock side marker light from the fender, and move it up to the headlight...that's the easiest thing to do, i never could find a plug for that accent light...so i just used that stock sidemarker...

now then, about bulbs...i had some APC bulbs in my projectors...but one burnt out...so i just went back to the stock...now i have some uh..."EXCELON"...but i haven't had a chance to try them out...as my car is inoperable at the moment. BUT, i know that the Slyvania Superstars are NOT available in the H1 bulb type, which is what the projectors use...what i wanna do tho, is find me a nice cheap set of gold beam bulbs...they'd be sooooo tight in the projectors...it'd look sttraight up Le Mans touring BMW/Viper/Porsche. w00t.

First, coomer, yeah I did have a higher wattage bulb in there (me being stupid thinking Toyota was invincible...) and well I am suffering now. Stress. Hopefully when I jump to HID this problem will be killed.

And John, thanks! Do you know what application those plugs came from? The H1 bulbs go straight into the projector, and the things the H1s plug into you got form Honda. So it's just a snip-snip, rewire and tape job eh?

Do you know what application those little things are from? What would I ask them for? Thanks:)

Well, since you did have higher wattage bulbs in there, you may have burned something up. >> If you have a voltmeter, you should test the wires near the headlight socket to see if you're getting a good +12 volts and a good ground. If you aren't, then trace your wires back and keep on testing and looking for problems as you go back.
