I got tired of looking for an SSIII grille so i decided to make my own with chicken wire ( mesh grill) I know some people dont like this.
But with the superb availability of parts for our cars....
, i felt inclined to do something ricey.

EWWWW, but yeah post some pics, maybe with a little time and effort you can make that chicken wire look nice. Try painting them dude.

i disagree with the "eww".. chicken wire has a good pattern and i put it in the grille of my 94 coupe.. i didn't paint it and it looked fine. Very subtle, clean look.

PS: ricey would be if you went to autozone and bought the grill inserts they have... you know the ones with little flames cut out etc..

what exactly are you supposed to put down there? go to the dealer n ask for the 'mesh' bumper grill inserts? mine is jus fallin apart n it looks all bootleg from me trying to keep it in place :\
btw, the chickenwire aint lookn too bad..seriously, never autozone flames..never..never..

i dont mind the "chickenwire"/mesh grills. I used to have one on my car that i didnt paint, and it looks meh, but i put one on sarahs coupe but painted it bronze to match her rims, it doesnt really show in this pic, but it looks pretty good.
Mine's not that bad looking either, well IMO. I got this from one of the tuner stores in a Chinese mall (Pacific mall baby)

^ that pic right there looks likes high quality mesh. Well I guess chicken wire is okay as long as they don't look crinkled which makes it look like it doesn't belong.

Yeah I think black would be a more subtle look.

i'm looking into getting some mesh for my front grill but i don't have the slightest clue on how to mount it an keep it in one place. any pointers?

this is what i did... on my 94 bumper there are those little struts that run up and down, well they have these black plastic covers over them that clip on. I removed these and zip tied the mesh to each strut at the top and bottom. Then i managed to snap the covers back on and you couldn't see the zip ties at all.
The hardes part was securing the mesh around the edges
on the edges am planning to do a couple of little holes

For the SS-III grill, I think Vincent_Doggy has some for sale. If not, I can go to Toyota and give them the part number, and sell it to you for my cost if you want. I don't know if the US Toyota dealer has it but I know the one I went to a few days ago does...along with a few other goodies I found part #s for! Go me!

yeah the hole bumper needs to come of. i recommend cut out a piece of cardboard to measure the hole. and get a pattern.. it will be easier then to cut the mesh. If you paint it, remember any rock will chip it.. I have chipped spots now...

my c one bumper had mesh preinstalled on it with these little metal tabs on the backside that were fiberglasssed in im sure u could do the same thing with some xtra metal scraps and some jb weld
it actually doesnt look bad at all just paint it black so it doesnt stand out making it look ricey
if your going to do this chicken wire thing i recomend having it powder coated should be tougher than regular paint
i had this on my last car and it looked really nice, i also did it black, and i used thin black zip ties in the bottom and top of each post to hold it in place. you couldnt even see the ties when i was done
also, look for mesh gutter guard instead of chicken wire at a place like home depot, its about $2 per 18 inch sheet i believe.

why dont you just get an aluminum sheet and use a dremel to cut out CELICA

how can you cut, celica with the dremel, you must have very good skills.
If you paint it black, make it thick, after a few months it will chip, i have to repaint mine....

I'd like to do something like this too, but wonder how it would look to first take out the little posts (bars) in the bumper then put the mesh grill.

I put one on my first 6gc years and years ago. Looked really ricey until I painted it black. Then I really liked it. Have fun picking dead bugs out f it all the time tho
