How to tell a 94 from 95 - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #5356 16 posts Started by ScoobyDooCruiser
Hey,
Its easy to spot the difference between the 94-95 and 96-99 celicas, but is there a way to tell what year it is between the ones in the groups? Any minor changes at all visible that can allow you to tell the difference?

It just kinda cool being able to say, "oh ya, thats a such and such year celica."

As far as I know, there aren't a whole lot of ways to determine the year just from looking at the car.

If it's a convertible and it has the '94-'95 front end, then it's a '95, because the convertible model wasn't available in 1994.

If it's an ST, then it isn't a '98 or '99, because the ST wasn't produced in those years.

If it's a coupe, then it's not a '99, because there was no coupe model in 1999.

That's about all I can think of for now.

New Toyota project coming soon...
The 94-95 celicas have one single air dam built into the front bumper which has a foglight at each side,

Where the 96-99 versions have seperate holes at each side to hold the fog lights.
The turn light signals on the 96-99 shape are more often than not clear glass.

Also the 96-99 shapes seem to have the JDM spec rear lights.

Well that is how it appears here in Ireland, not so sure about you guys in the states though!
Yeah, we have the same differences in the front bumpers here. We never got the tail-lights with the clear turn signals stateside though.

Thats a shame,

I still have the old rear lights on my Celica.
But I have placed an order here in the local Toyota dealer,
$120 each for the JDM rear lights.

I think I will keep the standard front bumper though as fitting a kit to that seems to be cheaper that fitting it to the newer version.
(Don't know why, but any quote I got was cheaper to fit on the 94-95 bumper >confused.gif> )
Wow, $120 each for the later-model tail-lights with the clear turn signals is cheap!

And you're saying that it's cheaper to get an aftermarket front end than a '96-'99 OEM one? That doesn't surprise me, as Toyota OEM parts are generally pretty expensive.

You can tell by checking the 10th characater in the VIN >smile.gif>

Just know that R is 1994 (I believe)

S is 1995.. T is 1996... and so on... (i'm pretty sure, might be wrong)
also the 94-95 celica has a 2 post spoiler while the 96+ has the stock 3 post spoiler >biggrin.gif>

I don't know about other ones, but I know the 99 has the 3 pronged steering wheel.
Didn't all the 95's come badged with the 25th Anniversary? Can't remember...

The date of your car is on the side of your timing belt cover.
