I want to lift (yes thats right..) lift my celica about 2-4 inches, just enought to put stock cherokee rims an tires on it... perferable i would want the suspension adjustable, back to stock, or close. is there anyway to do this? aside from air bags?

I had an idea using a coil over kit, but keeping the stock springs, but this was one of those 3 am ideas...so any ideas?

I would leave it alone, I want(ed) to turbo it, but its an automatic, 1.8 with 176xxxmiles on it, and since gas is going up to 4 dollars a gallon b4 winter ends, a 30 mile a gallon, getto rally car is exactly what I want....

to lift a celica is quite difficult, if you just buy a cheap set of coilovers and throw them in- it will mess up your suspension geometry. This means it will wear out the outside of your tires very quickly.

To properly lift a celica you would need to move the suspension anchor points down to a lower position, get longer shock obsorbers, sway bars designed to work with a higher suspension, and finnally tallers springs.

If you haven't noticed, lift kits for trucks cost a ton. To lift a celica properly will cost even more then that.

Additionally, can our celica reliably turn such big tires?

Auto ST with high mileage has the same whp as a limp hamster.. I doubt that your car will have enough power to roll on those tires, especially for winter time.

stock cherokee rims an tires are deff not anything special, your far better off with just getting some decent snow tires and leaving the susp. alone unless you absolutly have to have more ground clearence, the only feasable option I can think off would be just get coilovers (brand name) and set them to the highest setting, would be stock high but it would not have the same range so it would not drop as low on bumpy roads as stock would. then again im talking about a few inches here hardly a gain.

also not only is the hight clearence an issue but turning clearence, bigger tires will rub the inside of the wheel well when turning and massivly reduce turn radious.

yea..you would have to fabricate something in terms of a 'lift kit' because like the other members said, you have to worry about being able to actually spin the wheels properly, rubbing the wheel well, susp. geometry, and custom parts.

i suppose you could gain some clearance from using some good aftermarket coilovers and max their height out, but then you would have to worry about the tire rub

well what about wheel spacers? those mini wheels with lug posts, space the wheels out more, and be able to put on some larger wheels, yeah, I'm mostly doing this for ground clearance. I'm up here in NH, and it does snow...and the plows...well....sometime forging a snow bank is needed....plus I want clearance, like 3-4 inches more, which is obtainable with 22'', since I'm running 15''s...so

psh just get coilovers, and go to the top threads, take it in for an alignment, watch the mechanics laugh at you and then when they are done pay them and drive home.

a set of coilovers can put you pretty high....when someone installed a NJ member's coilovers they did it backwards and man was that celica high.

you wouldn't need anything custom though, probably get you 2" higher than stock maybe

Real high profile tire can lift you up about 2" too.

^ lol just get 2 sets of identical coil overs and double em up but at some point you will run out of shock travil and be maxed on hight, then double up on some wheel spacers and get the jeep tires keep in mind it will not help you drive in the snow other then that you could clear some rocks, you will have no power to pull the massive tires. and ridding on double coilovers will be far from safe

what do you mean double them up? and i know that it wont give better tracktion, if i wanted that get better tires, but ground clearance is what I am after....
