Hello im a new member to this forum even though i browsed this forum alot, Ive had my 6th gen celica for about 4 years and its done me good..only thing is ... its a 97 Automatic St Liftback LE with over 200k and i was wondering what i should do... I was thinking of either,
1: Selling the Celi and get me a 95 acura legend coupe type II 6 speed 210-230hp or
2: Buy me a 3S-GE (Beams) Motor Complete and Swap it out on my Celica making it a whoppin 197 bhp

Kinda Confused on this...

other questions i have is...since i never swapped out or even attempt to touch the motor cause of NC emissions

1: Will swapping the engine leave my check engine light... meaning will i be missing a sensor or two going from a 7A-FE to a 3S-GE?

2: Will the motor be a drop in or will i need to get custom mounts and do some welding fabricating?

3: Will I need Different Mounts switching from auto to manual?

so many questions with so many answers...I'm sorry, but IMO just but the Acura.

yea im kinda leaning towards the acura right now... even though i done some swaps with honda and acura motors... i just never touched my own engine...so i was just kinda curious about the questions i ask.

I gotta agree with Batman, it'd be alot easier to just buy the Acura than to do an engine swap.

acura legend...my old baby.....the type ii's are as fast as the type r....but if you dont wanna mess with emissions....jus go with the legend.......

I see a lot of Acura Legends come into the shop with bad trannies... and these trannies aren't cheap either. Longitudinally mounted FWD = gay...

that''s a perfect example of what you need to do, the engine used is a 3SGTE so involves a little extra work, but almost identical swaps. As far as emissions, you have a OBD II and the 3SGE is OBDI so your car would legally fail inspection with this engine. If the wiring is done properly you should have no Check engine lights on after done. all your other questions you can find answer for them on the link above.

95 legends are amazing. the coupes are clean as hell. if you can find it in manual, then definetly it should be your choice.

but the best way to do it is get a scale and some marbles and weigh some pros and cons

in my biased opinion, do the swap! if youre in north carolina (like me) you can find some goon in the boonocks to look at your car, tell you to turn the headlights on, blinkers tails and wipers and send you on your way!

Don't do the 3S, its more modding than what it's worth. Since you have an ST, get the 4A-GE. The engines are cheap and easy to find and It'll bolt on to your tranny with your own motor mounts and it may not push quite what the 3S can, it's still a lot better than what you've got right now.

Not sure about emissions on the 4A but they put them in US cars so I can't imagine why they wouldn't pass.

well they also put the 3s engines in US cars as well (MR2), but that doesn't mean it's technically legal in our cars, both engines never came in the 6th gen from factory(for US), so you'd have as much hassel with emissions either way. But the 4a would go into the ST easier than a 3s would.

Yeah! not in our cars at least cause they never came in any 6th gen brought to America. And the government doesn't like to give us a chance for much modding, thats legal anyway.
