Topic #54459 10 posts Started by Shigexile
so i painted my body components and did many layers. the color matches perfectly but i just don't have the gloss or shine to it. Is there another paint thing i was suppose to buy for this effect? the color is just flat and need the relfection like the rest of the car.

Can you guys help me out in what i need to do in order to get the glossy look to it? it'll help a lot.

go by yourself a can of dupi-color clear coat and lightly spray about 2-3 coast of that on there, wet sand it with some 1000-1200 grit sand paper and spray one more nice coat on it...it should look pretty close to the rest of the car after that

what exactly is wet sanding? is it different from dry sanding? is it like wetting the paper while sanding?
i sanded them after painting them once and the color had some dots in them. probably do another layer of paint and then buff them up. after that i'll add some clear coat and buff them up again

With wet sanding, what you want is the highest grit you can get. These sand papers are black and not your typical brown rough low grit sand paper. You just dunk the sheet into a bucket of water and start sanding. You'll be amazed on how well it works.

not necessarily....if you get sand paper thats too fine you'll be standing there for hours sanding it and it will barley do anyhting....if you wet sanding...say a fender, door, hood, etc...you should prolly go with 1000 gritt or 1500 gritt....that works best for taking a thin layer of paint/clearcoat off and then buff....what you do is you completely wet the entire surface....and as he said^ dunk the sand paper into the bucket to get it wet also.....then just do like a circle pattern...just make sure your not going extra rough and burning through...caus then your gonna have to repaint it....fyi..the lower the numbers go...for instance 600 grit and 400 gritt...the rougher the paper gets...typicaly used for taking paint off the lower you go
