New KYB's and Tein's Installed!!! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #54480 24 posts Started by k-weaver
Just finished up the car with my new KYB's and S-Techs...I LOVE IT!!! The ride is so much stiffer and much more comfortable. My car would always make noises when going over speed bumps and coming in and out of dips. It also seemed really loose. Like when I went into a dip the suspension in the front would compress ALOT. Now that I have the new KYB's and the Teins, the ride is SO MUCH smoother.

I would like to thank everyone who replied to my previous post, the info that you guys gave me was great and without it I would have tore into this needing parts and not being able to finish. Again, thanks guys...

Shiney! Very nice car overall mate. I dare say it will lower a little more too as they settle in smile.gif
I don't think that I would want to go any lower. Considering the cost that would have to go into it. I read alot of posts that stated the KYB's arent that great for going any lower than the 1.4" and I would also probably have to get a chamber kit and another alignment.
why does everyones 6gc higher than mines????? STOCK i have stock suspension.......and my car looks low.

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
looks much better, I would get some clear sidemarkers someday too

Probably because you have ground effects....

here i have this link all you have to do is look and read. GT = SEALED STRUTS

CLick

just look for sealed struts it should be on the right 2nd one down for the GT's and top right for the ST's

you also can us the left table to look for other suspension and intakes.

thanks! do these sets contain the struts for both the front and rear? the sealed set should work for my 99 GT, right?

did you look for the one that says (sealed struts)
yes they are all four. my friend bought a set for his supra on this site. he's the one who showed me this sight.

i have yet to buy something but i will. since it has all the stuff there. suspension.........shocks.springs......exhaust.........clutch.........etc.

Are all of the struts sealed on a 99 GT?? I thought the rear were sealed and the front were rebuildable?
well i havent looked into a 99 cuz i have a 95 gt.

my front and rears are both sealed...........

so thus i need the sealed set susp........

also check some stickies they do help.

When changing out the strut mounts, is there a bearing i need to order seperately for the rear mounts?? I got a set of KYB mounts for the front and rear - they havn't come in yet, but from what i hear there is a bearing i need for the rear that's not included?

When I did them I actually used all of my old mounts. I only noticed the bearings in the front and I do not believe there were any in the rear. When you take mount off the spring, you should see the bearing, comes right out. I don't see why you couldn't reuse your old ones as long as they are in good shape...
I checked the front suspension and they are in fact cartridges and not the sealed type. Here's my dilemma - as of right now i have both cartridges AND sealed struts/suspension for the front. Could i still swap out the front rebuildable struts with the new sealed set i have? reason i ask is i really need new struts on the front anyway, along with new shocks... I know it's a bit of a step down in versatility for future upgrades, but i doubt i will be doing anything else to the suspension anyway. Is it physically do-able? i mean would the sealed struts fit the same as the rebuildable set would? The front struts are a bit sorter in length than the rear - this is normal, right? thanks!

Yeah. Just rip out your old front struts, which are rebuildable right? Well rip the whole thing out and install the sealed struts. You'll be good to go. No need to add brake fluid since they come sealed.
